Building houses, farms, and dungeons in Minecraft is fantastic, but what is a dream world without your favorite cat friend? If you want a pet to hang out with you or wait for you at home after a long day of mining for diamonds, you can tame a stray cat.
Taming a cat in Minecraft is quite simple, but like any other task in the game, it is not described for you.
Here is our guide on how to tame a cat in Minecraft including where to find stray cats and what they do once you adopt them.
Where to find cats
There are no animal adoption centers in Minecraft ̵
Black cats can also be found around witch huts in swamps
In the Bedrock edition of the game (the most common modern version of the game on Xbox One, Windows, iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch) spawn more often when there is a full moon. Taming a cat
To tame a cat, first collect some raw cod or raw salmon from a nearby lake or river. Equip the raw fish and slowly approach a stray cat. Use the raw fish on the skeptical cat. Continue to feed the cat more raw fish until hearts appear above its head, indicating that it is being tamed. You will probably have to feed it several times to like it, so stock up on fish before trying this. When the cat is fed enough, the hearts disappear and the cat is given a collar. You now have a cat!
Once you have tamed a cat, it will follow you wherever you go. Don't worry if you lose sight of your cat – they can teleport to a player moving 12 blocks away. Barring the order to sit down, tamed cats don't stay still for long and explore around the player. You can tell a cat to sit and let it stay in one place, for example, if you want an indoor cat to stay in your house.
When they are in a house, cats will automatically climb on the furniture. You can often find them on chests, beds and ovens. Like real cats, cats in Minecraft can sometimes get in your way and make crates, ovens, etc. unusable until you move them. If they end up in something you don't want to mess with, you can push them out of the way, lure them away with raw fish, or remove blocks underneath to make them move.
When a player goes to sleep at night, there is a chance that a tamed cat will sleep in their neighborhood. When they wake up, there's a chance that a cat will have a present for you – they can collect rope, raw chicken, a rabbit's paw, and other items.
