Sometimes you may need to quickly disable biometric authentication on your iPhone. Instead of digging around in Settings, this quick shortcut disables Face or Touch ID on your iPhone.
If you are somewhere (such as a border check or party) where you think your face or fingerprint could be used against your will to unlock your iPhone, this quick shortcut disables biometric authentication. You can even do this if your iPhone is in your pocket.
On your iPhone, press and hold the Volume Up and Side buttons (the Sleep / Wake button on older iPhones) for a second or two.
When you see the "Scroll to Disable" menu or feel a vibration, it means that biometric authentication is disabled.
You do not have to switch off your iPhone; just press the side / on / off button again to lock it. Now your iPhone will not be unlocked without your access code.
You can also permanently disable Face or Touch ID on your iPhone. However, if you do this, you must use a strong alphanumeric access code.
