Instagram has another Snapchat moment. This time it is with Augmented Reality (AR) effects. And although they are incredibly fun, they are also a bit confusing to use. Here's how you can start using Instagram effects on your iPhone or Android phone.
Finding and using Instagram effects
Instagram effects is another addition to the already busy Instagram Stories interface. To view it, open Instagram and then swipe from the left edge to the right or tap the camera icon in the top left corner.

Make sure that you are in "Normal" mode. The shutter button must be in the center, surrounded by a carousel with circular icons, which are Instagram effects.
Simply swipe to the left to preview the new effects (the top and composite effects appear).
To open the Effects Gallery, swipe to the far right of the carousel and tap "Browse Effects".
Alternatively, you can select any effect in the carousel and then tap its name.
Tap "Browse effects" here.
The "Effects" Gallery & # 39; shows you the best effects. At the top you can switch to another category. Tap an effect to view a preview.
If you like it and want to see what it looks like, tap & # 39; Try & # 39 ;. The Instagram story interface opens immediately with the new effect ready
If the effect has more options, smaller circles appear above the shutter button; scroll through to try them all. Some effects also have hidden versions; tap the screen to open them.
If you are satisfied with an effect, tap the shutter button to take a photo or hold down to take a video recording.
On the next screen, tap "Your Story" if you want to add the image or video to your story. To send it to a friend or see more options, tap "Send to".
Save Instagram Effects
As you follow more makers and visit the "Effect Gallery", you can & # 39; I will probably use some effects more often than others. Fortunately, you can use the "Save" function to collect your favorite effects.
To do this, tap the name of the effect while viewing an example.
Then tap "Save effect."
Your saved effects appear to the left of the shutter button.
To remove an effect from your favorites, tap the name and then "Saved".
How to discover Instagram effects
While the "Effects Gallery" is a good place to start discovering Instagram effects, the best place to find new and interesting effects is on the Instagram profiles of creators.
To start, just search for AR and effects-related hashtags. When you find a maker that you like, tap the Smiley tab. This shows you a list of all the effects that person has created.
Tap a creator to preview the effect. Tap "Try it" to open that effect in Instagram stories.
If you look at someone's story and you find an effect he has used, tap the name of that effect at the top of the screen (below the person's Instagram handle).
This opens the (now) familiar Effect information screen. Tap "Try it" to preview the effect.
If you are viewing a creator's story, you may see a swipe button with the name of an effect. Swipe up to go directly to the filter screen in Instagram stories.
Now that you have discovered the new Instagram effects, keep browsing, trying and collecting! If you're ready for a break, check out our guide on how you can make Instagram work better for you.
