With a slew of new Star Wars movies and TV shows coming soon, you might want to dive into every existing Star Wars movie and TV show. Especially since they are all available to stream on now Disney Plus, from the original trilogy to The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian (with Clone Wars spin-off The Bad Batch arrival next week, May 4, 2021

).

Whether you’ve never seen them before or can recite them line by line, here’s how to watch every canon Star Wars movie, prequel, spin-off, and TV show in chronological order (including alternatives like Amazon, iTunes, Google Play and YouTube if you’d rather rent or buy video on demand than subscribe to Disney’s streaming service).

Episode I: The Phantom Menace

The Star Wars prequels begin 32 years before the Battle of Yavin (BBY), the famous Death Star battle featured in the original Star Wars movie. The discovery of 9-year-old Anakin Skywalker begins the Skywalker Saga when Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn finds himself extremely strong in the Force – the energy field that connects all life in the universe and from which the Jedi have their powers – and suspects that he is destined to balance the Force.

Meanwhile, Darth Sidious, a Sith Lord aligned with the dark side of the Force, is secretly working to destroy the Jedi and manipulate the Galactic Republic’s political system. Exciting things!

Episode II: Attack of the Clones

We jump 10 years ahead to 22 BBY for the second movie in the Skywalker Saga. At the moment, Anakin is Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi apprentice and quite a moody teenager. Even though it violates the rules of the Jedi Order, he also falls in love with Padmé Amidala.

Meanwhile, renegade Jedi Count Dooku tries to undermine the Republic – but what’s his connection to Darth Sidious?

The Clone Wars

Disney / Lucasfilm

Spanning 22 to 19 BBY, this CGI animated series (consisting of one movie and six TV seasons) tells the story of the intergalactic hostilities that erupted at the end of Attack of the Clones, and focuses on Anakin’s apprentice Ahsoka Tano. It’s not part of the Skywalker Saga, so no episode number here. After the final season, the story continues in The Bad Batch.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

Set about 10 or 13 years before the battle of Yavin, this standalone film reveals the early life and times of the roguish ace pilot Han Solo. It’s not part of the Skywalker Saga, but it’s worth seeing to see the origins of the Millennium Falcon and Han and Chewbacca’s first meeting.

Star Wars Rebels

This animated TV series, which ran for four seasons, follows a gang of rebels who defied Darth Vader and the Empire, set at 5 years of BBY.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Another movie in its own right, this one leads to the Battle of Yavin. Rogue One features the Rebel Alliance’s first major victory against the Empire as a ragtag team of renegades and spies plotting to steal the plans for the terrifying superweapon, the Death Star.

Episode IV: A New Hope

The fourth installment of the Skywalker Saga (and the original Star Wars movie) takes place in 0 BBY and builds on the famous Death Star battle. Determined to track down the stolen Death Star plans, Darth Vader captures Princess Leia, sparking a series of events in which Luke Skywalker and Han Solo join the Rebel Alliance. Leia is rescued and the Death Star is destroyed.

Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

Three years after the Battle of Yavin (ABY), we rejoin Leia, Luke and Han as the Rebel Alliance flees from a raging empire. Luke learns the ways of the Force while trying to become a Jedi, but discovers an unexpected connection with Darth Vader.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi

A year later, in 4 ABY, the Rebel Alliance attacks the second Death Star. Meanwhile, Leia discovers she is Luke’s twin sister and Darth Vader’s daughter as she leads the Rebel Alliance to the realm’s demise.

The Mandalorian

Greetings to all Baby Yoda! Viewers were charmed by the little green man who stole the show in The Mandalorian, a Western-influenced action series that focuses on a laconic bounty hunter starting shootings on the edge of the galactic frontier. Set five years after Return of the Jedi, it sees victorious rebels and shattered Imperial forces still locked in battle, while also being based on the backstory of Star Wars icon Boba Fett.

This most recent Star Wars spin-off debuted as the flagship of the original series ahead of the 2019 Disney Plus launch. There are two seasons, consisting of satisfying half-hour episodes. You don’t need to have seen any previous spin-offs to understand it, but Season 2 will be especially satisfying if you’ve watched The Clone Wars – for more details, check out our (spoiler-laden) recaps of The Mandalorian and its wealth of Star Wars Easter eggs.

Star Wars Resistance

Set before, during and after The Force Awakens (34 BBY), this two-season animated TV series follows the hapless resistance spy Kazuda Xiono as he tries to stop a First Order plot.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens

The seventh episode of the Skywalker Saga. In 34 ABY, Luke has disappeared and the mysterious Force-sensitive nomad Rey becomes entangled in the resistance. Meanwhile, Ben Solo, son of Leia and Han, has fallen into the dark side and has become Kylo Ren.

Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker
