When will the IRS send a second check and in what order?
When the IRS starts sending checks depends entirely on the passage of a new coronavirus help package, which hasn't happened yet. And we still don't know for sure when it will happen.
When and if it happens, the IRS will likely keep much the same system for sending the second stimulus check that it used the first time, including the IRS Get My Payment tool for tracking your stimulus check and recording. for direct deposit.
That means that the agency may also follow the same order to split payments, causing some to receive their checks days or even weeks earlier than others. Some are still waiting for their first checks. Here's how the checks that were sent from April 15th onwards:
Direct Deposit : About 80 million people who filed 2018 or 2019 tax returns and provided the IRS with all their direct deposit data (according to the House Committee on Ways and Means). May 13.
Social Security Beneficiaries : People who had direct deposit information with federal agencies; many still received their checks in the first week, although perhaps not on the first day.
Paper Checks: The IRS began mailing them to people about a week later with no immediate deposit information on file.
Economic Impact Debit Cards : Prepaid Visa cards shipped to approximately 4 million people as of mid-May.
Last group : Anyone who received their checks after June is still waiting for their stimulus payment or. Direct payments will continue until the end of 2020 for some individuals who were not part of the previous groups. Here's what could slow the issuance of stimulus checks for some, and how to contact the IRS to report a missing, lost, or stolen check.
How long does it take for everyone to receive their checks in the mail from the IRS?
While we expect the majority of people to receive their money earlier, if the first round is any indication, it could still be months for the IRS to send all checks. Six months after the first stimulus payments went out, the federal agency is still trying to trackwho may be owed money.
And even with the experience of processing about 160 million payments in the IRS back pocket, some would likely have to overcome a few hurdles to receive their money. Here are common bumps that.
3 Possible Reasons Your Check Has Been Delayed
We won't know any details unless, or until a new bill is hired and the IRS gears up to send another round of checks, but here are sticking points to watch out for
Changes in Aid to Dependents : If Congress expands or narrows down the definition of a dependent in the next bill, it may require the IRS to change its accounting system. This may delay the processing of your payment.if the rules change and more people become eligible dependents.
Bank Status : Changing your bank status may delay receipt of your payment. Bank status disproportionately impacted black Americans and other colored people, according to an analysis by the Urban Institute think tank. People who identify as white and whose income was above the poverty line were more likely to have received their first stimulus check by the end of May than people who identify as black, Hispanic, or below the poverty line, the analysis found.
Non-affiliates Should Take the Extra Step : People who earn below the threshold of being required to file federal income tax returns in 2018 or 2019 will also not receive a stimulus check unless they submit an online form for the IRS have completed. This group includes low-income families with children and a much greater number of black people and people of color. More than 9 million people have.
