Last year, the future of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy franchise was cast into doubt when series director James Gunn was fired by Disney over some offensive tweets he did years ago. The third part of the franchise was then put in place, as Marvel was looking for a new director for the film.
But in what feels like this year's biggest plot twist (so far), a report from Deadline has shown that Gunn is back in the director's seat. According to the report, it appears that Gunn had met with Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn several times to discuss the situation, where Horn was finally persuaded by Gunn's apology and turn the course to restore him as the film's director.
Gunn has then confirmed that the report is true in a post on Twitter where he expressed his gratitude to anyone who had supported him. Previously, the entire cast of the Galaxy Guardians had attempted to petition Disney to change, with the actor Dave Bautista (who plays Drax) being the most vocal of all, even threatening to quit the movie if Gunn did not resume.
Meanwhile, Gunn will also direct the sequel to DC's suicide group.
