I've been writing about sound for more than 20 years, but this is my first Jamo speaker review. I waited too long, and the Studio Series S 803 stuck to me as a good place to start. Just these midsize speakers made great size ̵
The front panel hosts a 1 inch (25 mm) soft dome tweeter in a waveguide and a 5 inch (127 mm) aluminized polyfiber woofer and a card bass port. The impedance is nominal to 8 ohms. S 803 comes in black, white and walnut vinyl finishes, and magnetically attached chewing gum is included. The cabinet measures 13.9 by 7.5 by 9.9 inches (353 by 191 by 252 mm).
The rear panel connection of the S 803 is common. While there are two sets of loudspeaker cable connections, they are not for biwiring or biamping. The highest set of connectors are intended for use with the optional Jamo S8 ATM Dolby Atmos Module speaker speakers ($ 145, £ 199 per pair) that attach to the top panels of the S 803 speakers. The modules can be of importance to S 803 buyers with multi-channel home theater systems using Jamo S 81 center speakers ($ 150, £ 156) and the J 10 subwoofer ($ 399, £ 307).
I used two amplifiers with the S 803 speakers, first($ 249) and later the rather small ($ 143) and both

] Listening to S 803
S 803 does not mix in the background. Jamo engineers didn't go for a neutral balance – it's a light and basic speaker. When I listened, I teased a bit of the brightness by popping on the accompanying grids. I also lower the brightness with acceptable use of the DTA Pro tone controls. The base is positively large and bold, but the definition is on the soft side of the neutral. The tougher rocking songs on Son Volt's Notes of Blue album lit up the S 803's. Yes, they can party.
Reggae songs showed the S 803's gung-ho bass capability, and when I pumped up DTA Pro's bass control, Studio One Dancehall Selection's album hit gusto. Ditto for Beck's Odelay (I forgot how good this album is). Legendary jazz drummer Max Roach's 1980s all-percussion album M & # 39; Boom's hard striking dynamics was impressive for such a small speaker.
Australian vocalist Julia Jacklin's promising debut album Do not let the kids Win sound too bright on most speakers, and it certainly did on S 803. I thought it was true for a lot of pop and rock music on
For my stereo home cinema songs I was completely satisfied with the S 803s when I saw the amazingabout astronaut Neil Armstrong. The sound mix was really enveloping in an early stage when the astronauts are trying the first docking operation with another spacecraft. The S 803's speakers projected a great room-filling sound of the spacecraft's creaking metal, whistling controls, and the breathing of the astronauts. My heart was racing!
Jamo Studio Series S 803s are challengers, but if you have room for small tower speakers, the Dayton Audio MK442T speakers have a $ 228-pair even better bass, with richer space and sweeter treble. Look at my review coming soon.
