Join Loki On His Time Traveling Adventures With This Snapchat Lens « Mobile AR News :: Next Reality

Just like its predecessors WandaVision and Falcon and the winter soldier, Marvel’s latest series for Disney Plus, Loki, has its own augmented reality experience.

While the first titles only debuted their AR content just before their respective season finales, the latter arrives just in time for the debut of God of Mischief’s time-traveling exploits.

In front of Loki, Disney Plus has chosen to publish its AR experience as a sponsored lens on Snapchat. The experience includes a virtual backdrop influenced by the show’s premise, a gold multi-hand clock that spins because they are multiverse. Tapping the screen adjusts the virtual lighting of the scene.

The highlight, however, is in the foreground, where you’ll find your name across the camera view with the show’s font with randomly shifting letters, much like the show’s logo, which is now familiar to fans through several trailers.

Fans will love this, but Disney Plus runs a business here and there’s a call-to-action for users within the Lens. Using Snapchat’s Shoppable AR ecommerce tool, it adds a button that allows users to sign up for Disney Plus and watch the series.

Since the Loki lens is from the sponsored variant, you have to access it via the lens carousel rather than a link or scannable code. And you’ll probably have to act quickly, as sponsored lenses typically don’t have a long shelf life.

Disney and Marvel have a history of spreading AR experiences across platforms. For instance, WandaVision was promoted via Facebook Messenger, while the Disney Insider app served as the home for the Falcon and the winter soldierAR experience.

Previous properties have featured AR content through a Playground AR Playmoji pack for Google Pixel devices and the Moviebill in-theatre magazine. Marvel has also played with AR wearables such as the Iron Man AR helmet and the Dimension of Heroes game for Lenovo’s Mirage AR headset.

Fans who have already dived into the first episode of Loki will also note some neat AR concepts. But I won’t spoil it for you, you’ll have to make time to see it for yourself.
