Apple just unveiled the new macOS Monterey and it̵
If you’re moving back and forth between your iPad and Mac all day, take note: The new Universal Control feature lets you use a single mouse and keyboard between the two for a seamless experience with no setup required. The feature makes it easy to quickly drag content back and forth between the two. It’s perfect for drawing with your Apple Pencil on an iPad and then adding it to your slideshow on a Mac.
We’re all for anything that automates tasks and makes life easier. Now macOS brings Monterey Shortcuts to the Mac to do just that with all your favorite apps. The feature comes with an artillery of pre-built actions just for Mac and lets you share files, create GIFs, and more with minimal effort.
Advanced users can create additional custom shortcuts as needed. Shortcuts are built into macOS for things like Finder, the menu bar, Siri, and more, so you’ve got plenty of options. Users can also import current Automator workflows into Shortcuts with minimal settings.
Not only is the operating system getting an update, Safari has one too! A brand new tab design gives users more page space. The new tab bar changes color with your web page and combines the toolbar, search field, and your open tabs into one compact design.
The handy Tab Groups feature allows you to group your tabs together for better organization. This is great if you need a whole bunch of tabs for work, school, shopping, and planning a vacation. Plus, Tab Groups automatically syncs your tabs across all your Apple devices for a seamless experience.
AirPlay to Mac
iPhones and iPads are great, but their screens are small. AirPlay to Mac makes it easy to watch or present content from any of these devices on your Mac. With the Mac’s Retina display and high-fidelity speakers, they’re a great medium for watching videos or listening to podcasts.
A new feature called Quick Note has entered the arena! Quick Note makes it even easier to open a new note whenever you need it, for example to write down a phone number. It’s also app-aware and makes it easy to capture and paste text, URLs, and more from apps like Safari or Maps into your note.
Users can also add entries and view past edits. When you’re done, you can categorize notes with tags so that you can easily search them later via the Tag Browser and tag-based Smart Folders.
Stay on top of things with the new Focus feature. It automatically filters notifications that have nothing to do with what you’re working on and saves them for later. When you enable this feature, your status is set accordingly on all your devices to alert those trying to contact you that you may not respond immediately.
applease too announced a bunch of other upcoming features for the coming iPad 15 and iOS 15 updates. Be sure to check out the rest of our coverage for Apple WWDC 2021 so you’re in the know!
