Must be LEGO fast! Sonic the Hedgehog is getting his own LEGO set – Review Geek

Sonic LEGO set
LEGO Ideas

Last year we begged LEGO to realize this Sonic-based set through the Ideas fan submission system. The Green Hill Zone set has garnered enough fan votes, and it̵

7;s one of the few that LEGO has committed to bringing to life in a full retail set. That means it should hit the shelves in a year or two.

The Ideas system, where LEGO builders from around the world can submit their ideas and fans vote on which LEGO should use, has created some of the most interesting sets of the past decade. Idea posts can be for anything, including pop culture licensed properties. So it is with the Sonic Mania Green Hill Zone design of “toastergrl”.

But savvy LEGO fans know that pop culture sets are more likely to be approved if LEGO already has a relationship with the licensee: LEGO has already produced a number of Sonic the Hedgehog-based extras for the now-defunct LEGO Dimensions video games. It helps that Sonic is experiencing a bit of a renaissance after his live action movie and upcoming Netflix series.

The Green Hill Zone set features a recreation of the first stage of Sonic’s first SEGA Genesis game, featuring the iconic checkered earthworks and loop-the-loop. It also features Sonic’s villain Dr. Robotnik (you can call him Dr. Eggman, but you are wrong) in his iconic Death Egg mech suit from Sonic 2. Of course, the process of transforming a LEGO Ideas set into a retail product often involves drastic changes, so some or all of the details in the original design can be changed.

LEGO is a bit confused with video game properties. In addition to a partnership with Nintendo for the Super Mario electronic line, there is the official NES set, where sets are licensed from Minecraft and Overwatch. Maybe it won’t be long before you officially stage a Super Smash Bros. in brick form.
