Netflix comes pre-loaded on all LG smart TVs, making it incredibly easy to access. All you need to do to get started is log into your account. If you later find yourself unable to get back to your favorite episodes of Dark or the Great British Baking Show, here’s how to fix the problem.

Check your network connection and check for Netflix

The first step to troubleshooting most problems is to make sure that you are actually connected to the Internet. If your LG TV is not connected then it makes sense that Netflix will not work.

First, test if your internet works on another device, such as a phone or laptop. If it works on another device, try resetting the connection on your television. You can also reset your modem and your router if you cannot connect your TV. This should give them enough time to shut down completely and then plug them back in.

After you reset your Wi-Fi connection, checking the Netflix status can help. The platform has an official support site that should let you know if there are any issues.

If Netflix itself gives you the green light and your Wi-Fi is working fine, you may need to continue with our later steps.

Update the firmware of your LG TV if Netflix is not working

It is entirely possible that your TV and the Netflix app are running on different versions. The two update separately on LG TVs, so your app may have automatically updated while the TV hasn’t.

Both should update automatically, but it doesn’t always work that way. Fortunately, LG has made a short video showing how to update your TV:

The video is a few years old at this point, but most of the information should still be accurate. Follow the steps in the video and try restarting your TV.

Uninstall and reinstall Netflix

Believe it or not, files and caches can get corrupted on your LG TV, and this can cause Netflix to not work. However, it’s not as scary as it sounds, and you should be able to fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Here’s what to do:

Remove Netflix

  1. press the Home / Start on your remote to open the launch bar.
  2. Find Netflix on the launch bar and hover over it until an arrow appears.
  3. Click the arrow and then select it “X” symbol.
  4. Confirm that you want to delete the app by pressing OK

Reinstall Netflix

  1. Click on the Home / Start button to open the launch bar.
  2. Find the LG Content Store on the launch bar and click on it.
  3. Scroll through the arrows on your remote to navigate to the App tab and click on it.
  4. Find Netflix and click to install

Set your location correctly if Netflix is not working on your LG TV

Netflix offers different content libraries in different locations due to strict agreements and it is not kind to consider rule breakers. You may have to return to your home market to restore service.

For example, if your location is set to Australia while you are actually in the United States, Netflix can lock you out. Rather than giving you access to the library of both countries, Netflix will keep you out completely until you fix your situation.

If that happens, here’s what you need to do:

  1. press the Home / Start button and open the launch bar
  2. Find it Settings gear wheel in the top right corner.
  3. Select All settings At the bottom.
  4. click on General on the left side.
  5. Select Place
  6. Enter your correct location.

You may have tried this before anything else on the list, but it’s always worth another try. If you’ve already tried unplugging your TV for a soft reset, it’s time for the full factory special. Unfortunately, this means a bit more effort, as you also have to log in to all your other streaming services again.

Once you have reached this point, do the following:

  1. Click on the Home / Start button to open the launch bar.
  2. Open the Settings gear wheel at the top right.
  3. click on Generaland select Reset to original settings
  4. Enter your TV password if you have set one.
  5. Follow the remaining installation steps.
