If you just have a new Apple Watch Series 5 ($ 41

4 at Amazon) and plan to sell your old Apple Watch Series 3 ($ 329 at Amazon) To do this, set it up and disconnect your old model. The latest Apple Watch brings a number of refinements and new features to last year's Series 4. Issued alongside the iPhone 11 ($ 699 at Amazon) and 11 Pro the Series 5 adds an always-on display, features for tracking women's health and a built-in compass .

Before you can start using your new smartwatch, you must set it up. If you already have an Apple Watch, you must first disconnect the watch from your iPhone. This is a relatively smooth process, but you have a number of choices to navigate.

We will show you how to connect an Apple Watch to your iPhone and how to disconnect and delete your old one. We also show you how you can activate a new mobile subscription or delete your previous subscription. Watch the video below if you want to follow step by step.

Pairing a new Apple Watch with your phone

The first thing to do is charge both your iPhone and your new Apple Watch. It is not important that they both have a 100% full battery, just enough to withstand the pairing process and charge a backup of your old Apple Watch.

Take a moment to install the tire. Hold down the button next to the strap at the bottom of the watch. Then slide the strap into place until you feel a click. Repeat for the other side.

Now place your Apple Watch on your wrist and find a nice comfortable fit. Turn on your watch by holding down the side button until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. A link screen should appear on your iPhone. Tap Continue .

If you do not see this screen, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and then tap Start pairing .

A pattern of blue particles appears on your Apple Watch. When prompted, position your iPhone so that the Apple Watch appears in the camera's viewfinder. After a moment, the two devices are paired.

Now tap Set up Apple Watch and follow the instructions on your iPhone and Apple Watch to complete the installation. At this point you can back up your previous Apple Watch to your new restore.

If you cannot or do not want to use your iPhone's camera for pairing, tap Pair Apple Watch manually at the bottom of your phone screen. When the display of your Apple Watch shows the blue particle pattern, tap the information icon (that is, the letter "i" in a circle in the lower corner). A six-digit code appears on the screen of your watch. Type this code on your iPhone when prompted. After a few moments, your iPhone and Apple Watch will be paired and you can continue to set up your watch.

Enable the mobile service of your Apple Watch

Once you have paired and set some preferences, you can use the mobile service on your Apple Watch if it is supported. If you are unsure whether your watch can connect via a mobile connection, view the digital crown. If it is red or has the circumference of a red circle, it is a mobile model. It is not otherwise.

If you have not already done so, make sure that your courier plan allows you to add a watch. Prepaid subscriptions and some older accounts may not support additional devices. And I have to take into account that your iPhone and Apple Watch must be on the same provider. So if you have an iPhone on Verizon, but want to put your Apple Watch on AT&T, it won't work.

From your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app and open the My Watch Then tap Cellular and Set up cellular . Then follow the instructions for your provider. You basically have access to your account. As with setting up your phone, you may need to contact your provider for help with this.

How to disconnect an Apple Watch from an iPhone

When you disconnect your Apple Watch, it returns to the factory settings. But before your Apple Watch is deleted, your iPhone makes a new backup that you can use to restore to a new Apple Watch.

Start by opening the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Then open the tab My Watch . At the top of the screen, tap your Apple Watch . On the next screen, tap the information icon next to the name of your Apple Watch. Finally, tap Unpair Apple Watch . Several pop-ups appear that confirm that you want to unlink the link.

If you have a mobile subscription, you get the option to keep or delete it. You will be asked to enter your AppleID password. After about a minute, your watch must be disconnected from your phone and returned to the factory settings.

You can delete your Apple Watch in two ways

If you don't have your iPhone or have problems with disconnection, you can delete it in two other ways:

To delete your watch: Go to the app Settings on your watch and then go to General and then Reset . Tap Delete all contents and settings and then enter your access code.

Deleting your iPhone: Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap the My watch . Then go to General then Reset and finally tap Clear Apple Watch content and settings .

Delete your Apple Watch mobile subscription: open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone. Tap the My Watch tab and then tap Mobile. Tap the information circle next to your mobile subscription. And finally, tap Delete Verizon Plan, or whatever the courier name of your plan is. If this does not work, contact your service provider to remove your Apple Watch from your mobile plan.
