The original iterations of the Terminator movie franchise have served as inspiration (via the T-800 heads-up display) for future augmented reality dreams, so it is fitting that the current crop of AR gives the latest episode in the series a promotional boost.
With Terminator: Dark Fate being on Thursday at theaters, Paramount Pictures offers an improved brand experience through the AR carousel of camera effects on the Snapchat app for iOS and Android.
Starting with the front camera, the experience replicates the infamous battle-worn face of the Terminator, with a scroll bar that allows users to switch between human and robot appearances.
The experience continues with a World Lens on the rear camera. A Terminator appears with a plume of smoke appearing in the physical space of the user. Users can then tap their screen to photograph the hateful intruder.
Snapchat has increasingly become the go-to platform for AR marketing of blockbuster movies, with Spider-Man: Far from Home John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum Brightburn Shazam! X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Venom among recent films with branded augmented reality experiences via Snapchat.
Given the Terminator's science fiction influence on real-life augmented reality technology, it is even more fun to see the franchise premise come out in Snapchat & # 39; s taste of AR. Don't miss it: NR30: 30 people to view in Augmented Reality for 2019
