Nothing is more frustrating than buying a new computer, phone, game console, or backpack and finding out you could have got it for a lot cheaper elsewhere. To keep customers happy – and prevent them from going elsewhere – many retailers offer a price adjustment policy where they promise to match a lower price that you found elsewhere. They will also sometimes match themselves if you buy something that drops in price a week later.
What follows is the price adjustment policy for several major retailers. There are a few things to note. First, there are a number of rules attached to any price comparison policy. We have summarized some of the rules here, but you are advised to go to the links we have provided and read the policy carefully. Second, and logically, retailers that are marketplaces for other sellers, such as Amazon or Costco, do not have a price-matching policy.
Finally, most retailers that do have price adjustment policies suspend them for special occasions, such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. So if your favorite store doesn̵
Another thing to keep in mind: there are exceptions to most of the rules. So if you’re looking for a deal on a product and you know of a lower price elsewhere (or a price previously offered at the same store) it never hurts to call and ask if they match the price . In the meantime, we will continue to update this page as we get more information about retailers’ policies.
Amazon.com does not offer price matching.
While we’ve seen some claims that Apple will match up to a 10 percent price for products purchased from certain major retailers, there is no official policy on the company’s website.
Apple does say that if it drops the price of an Apple product within 14 days of receiving the item, you can visit an Apple Store or contact the Apple Contact Center at 1-800-676-2775 to request a request a refund or get credit for the price difference. However, that doesn’t apply to special sales like Black Friday.
B&H says it may be able to honor a current lower price or match a competitor’s price, but it does so on a case-by-case basis. You should contact customer service through onsite chat, email, or by calling (800) 221-5743 / (212) 239-7765.
Best Buy’s Price Match Guarantee states that a product may qualify for a price reduction if it is identical to the competitor’s product, is readily available at the competitor’s store or on its site, and is not shown on Best’s exclusion list. Buy (those “items for sale” the Sunday before Thanksgiving through the Monday after Thanksgiving ”).
Best Buy will also adjust the previous price in-store or online upon request, as long as this occurs during the return and exchange period.
Costco doesn’t match the price of competitors. However, according to the website, it will issue a credit for the difference between the price you paid and a promotional price if you purchased the item online at Costco.com and applied for the credit up to 30 days before the price change.
Before making a purchase, Dell will adjust the price of a new computer that has the same important features and specifications as the computer you purchased (such as memory, hard drive capacity, processor, etc.) from Dell, HP, Apple or Lenovo. . There are links on the price match page with a way to call or chat online so that the process can be tracked.
You can also contact the company about a price difference within 30 days of purchase. However, there is a long list of restrictions, and none of this is available between Thanksgiving Day and the following Monday.
At DJI we could not find any evidence of a price comparison policy. However, if DJI reduces the price of a product within seven days of receipt, you can contact the company at http://www.dji.com/contact within that time to request a refund or credit for the difference between the price you were charged and the current sale price. This does not include special sales events such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
We couldn’t find any evidence of a price comparison policy at GameStop.
According to the Google site: “At the moment we do not match the price.”
According to HP.com, the company matches the current pre-tax price for new comparable PCs and identical HP printer model numbers from nationally recognized online retailers, such as Dell, Amazon or BestBuy.com. The specifications must be the same, and you must request the match at the time of purchase, and this must be done by phone. You cannot request a price match via email or chat. It does not include items purchased during promotions.
If you find a similar product at a lower price during the return period, please email HP at firstname.lastname@example.org. This only applies to HP branded products and not products purchased from Thanksgiving through the week after Thanksgiving.
According to the Microsoft site, between October 1 and January 3, if you find a better price in the Microsoft Store for something purchased there within that time frame and it is still in stock, Microsoft will refund the difference. Buyers should call 1-877-696-7786.
Newegg has what it calls “Black Friday Price Protection” – if you buy a product that has that badge, was purchased between November 1 and November 22, and get the discount before November 30, you can get the difference back. According to Newegg, you don’t have to do anything; the refund will be processed on December 7th.
The retailer also offers price matching on selected items; these products are identified by the “Price Match Guarantee” label that appears in the price box on the right side of the product page. This applies regardless of whether you find that lower price on Newegg or what Newegg rates as a major retailer. You must notify Newegg of the lower price within 14 days of purchase. It is not valid from November 23 to November 30.
Sam’s Club will charge the same prices as “Daily Prices” at Walmart. Additionally, when you purchase a product online, you can request a price match for Sam’s Club promotional items items within eight days of purchase. Neither deal applies to events like Black Friday or Cyber Monday.
We didn’t find anything on the Sonos site about price matching.
Target will match the price of an item you find for less, either at Target or a select list of competitors if you request it at the time of or within 14 days of your purchase. You can bring your proof to the store or call for online purchases at 800-591-3869. For products purchased between November 1 and November 28, you can get an adjustment if the price falls before December 24, and ask to waive the 14-day restriction. There is a full list of exceptions on the website.
Walmart’s online store offers price matches for one item in stock per customer per day from a specified list of retailers. There is a long list of restrictions on the site; For example, it does not apply to in-store purchases and it does not apply to Black Friday and Cyber Week prices shown.
Walmart will match a price found on Walmart.com or Jet.com for an item purchased from a Walmart store, but it won’t match any special offers.
