Chromebooks are compact, agile laptops that are meant to do most of their work in the cloud. But from time to time you probably still have to print something. When a print job comes along, you are not discouraged: here you can see how you can ensure that your printer is ready for use and how you can print on a Chromebook.
It should be noted that we are dealing with two methods. One is via WiFi, which is the ideal method for the average modern printer. However, if it is not an option to connect to a printer via Wi-Fi, we recommend that you first connect your Chromebook to a printer with a USB cable and skip the components over a network connection.
Set up your printer with Wi-Fi
The easiest way to set up your printer on your Chromebook is via WiFi or a wired network. First make sure your printer is turned on and connected to your network. You can follow the guide on the webpage of your printer manufacturer for more information. If your printer does not work via WiFi or a network, you can proceed to the next step and set it up via USB instead.
Step 1: To start, confirm that your Chromebook is registered in the same Wi-Fi network as your printer. You can do this by clicking on the time in the lower right corner of the screen. Then click on the gear.
Step 2: Then click where it says Advanced on the bar on the left of the screen. Then click on Print, followed by Printers .
Step 3: Third, you want to click on the Add Printer button . You should see your printer in the list and when you are done, click Add .
If the above methods do not work, you can add your printer manually. The steps to go to the & # 39; s menus are the same as above, but you must have a lot of technical information to hand and enter it manually. That includes the IP address and protocol of the printer. For most printers, the supported connection protocol is IPP. You must also select ipp / print. When you are finished, click Add.
Set up your printer with a USB cable
If your printer is older and does not support Wi-Fi connections , you can try setting up your printer via a USB cable. This method does not always work guaranteed, depending on the age of your printer.
Step 1: To begin, you want to connect your printer via a USB cable. You also want to make sure that it is switched on and working.
Step 2: Once connected, navigate to the page Printer Settings . Click on the time in the lower right corner of the screen on your Chromebook. Then click on the gear. Click where it says Advanced on the bar on the left of the screen. Then click on Print followed by Printers .
Step 3: Once you reach the printer settings page, you will see your printer appear in the list. Click on it and press Save. Automatically adds and stores your printer in Chrome OS and in your Chromebook, even if you disconnect the printer from your device.
Printing on a Chromebook
Okay, now that your Chromebook has recognized the printer and is ready to use, we can actually print. This way you can print on a Chromebook.
Step 1: Go to the page that you want to print. Press the Ctrl and P keys once to open the printer window.
Step 2: The printer window should appear at the top of your screen. Look for the first part with the indication Destination . This indicates where the page is going. Chrome may recognize your printer automatically, but it's a good idea to check it again. Select See more in this section, which opens a list of printers. You want to click on your printer and choose it.
Step 3: Once done, you can check if all other print settings are correct. That is the number of pages, copies, layout or color. You can always click on More settings to change the paper size, pages per sheet, margins or scale. There is even an option to print on both sides if your printer supports this. If you are satisfied with all these settings, click on Print and your printer will print your document!
