QR codes are so useful. These days, all you have to do is open your phone’s camera app and tap a button to scan one. But creating it is a different story: online QR code generators aren’t always reliable, and most phones don’t have a built-in feature for it. Fortunately, Google Chrome is now doing that.
By the way, QR codes generated by Chrome contain the T-Rex of Google’s offline running dinosaur game. It’s right in the center of the code so this isn’t a standard format, but it can still be read by any QR code scanner.
Works with Google Chrome on these devices:
Generate a QR code on Android
In Chrome for Android, start by tapping the three-dot menu button in the top right corner while viewing the webpage. Then choose “Share”
This will give you a near full screen popup with the dino QR code in the center. You can have the QR code scanned by someone else now, or if you want to keep it for later, you can tap the “Download” button below it and it will be easily accessible from your phone’s gallery app.
Generate a QR code on iOS and iPadOS
In Chrome for iPhone, tap the Share button in the address bar at the top of your screen to get started. On the iPad, tap the same button, but it’s to the right of the address bar. From there, choose “Create QR Code” from the list, then you will see your code.
The reason this method doesn’t give you a dinosaur themed QR code is because the code is generated by the operating system rather than Chrome – in other words, Apple already has this feature built into their devices, so Google has chosen to use it. not to be duplicated. But like the Chrome version, you can save it to your phone by tapping the “Share” button at the bottom of the screen.
Generate a QR code on your computer
It’s even easier on the desktop version of Chrome. Right-click on an empty space on the web page and then choose “Create QR Code for this Page” from the context menu. Make sure to right-click on the background of the page instead of a link, image, or other element.
Now the QR code will appear as a popup in the top right corner of your browser. Unlike the mobile versions, you can even change the URL in this menu and the QR code will be updated as you type. And again, just click the “Download” button if you want to save the QR code as an image for printing or reuse later.
