Zoom calls are a part of everyday life for many professionals, and as companies explore hybrid workplace models, that̵

7;s unlikely to change anytime soon. A new tool from the Otter.ai notes app aims to help you keep track of what’s happening during your Zoom meetings by automatically recording and transcribing notes so you don’t have to.

Available on Wednesdays, Otter Assistant can automatically join the Zoom meetings in your calendar and record, take notes, and share those notes with the other meeting participants. If you are late or have to run away, you will not miss anything that is happening.

However, it will cost you: The Otter Assistant is part of the Otter.ai Business plan, which starts at $ 20 per month per user. If you have a plan and want to get started, here’s what you can do.

Using Otter Assistant for scheduled meetings

1. Make sure you have downloaded both the Otter.ai app and the Zoom app for desktop or mobile.

2. Select My calendar in zoom. You should see a list of your scheduled Zoom meetings.

3. Turn on auto-join for upcoming meetings.

If it worked, you should see Otter Assistant as a participant in your Zoom call.

Using Otter Assistant for ongoing meetings

If you forgot to select auto-join for a meeting, you can still use Otter Assistant. Here’s how:

1. Make sure you have downloaded both the Otter.ai app and Zoom for desktop or mobile.

2. Select My calendar in zoom. You should see a list of your scheduled Zoom meetings.

3. If the meeting you are currently in is not listed, click Add to Live Meeting.

4. Enter the URL of the Zoom meeting and click Add now.

Again, if it worked, you should see Otter Assistant as a participant in your Zoom call. Plus, for both scheduled and ongoing meetings, you can share the Otter Assistant link in the Zoom chat so everyone can watch. Clicking the link will open Live Notes in Otter so you can view and work with the transcript in real time. You can highlight and comment on the transcription. Comments can be shared with other groups in Zoom, or you can also create a new group.
