Microsoft has given players multiple options for recording and sharing footage from the next-generation console – whether you’re uploading content ASAP or on the go, or if you need to sift through a large collection of clips.
This guide covers all of the ways you can record gameplay on Xbox Series X.
Capture footage with an Xbox controller
The latest Microsoft controller that comes with the Xbox Series X has a special one Capture button in the center of the controller. Press and hold to capture gameplay footage with the latest controller Capture for about one to two seconds to start recording your gameplay clips.
Playing games on the Xbox Series X but using an older Xbox One controller? Don’t worry – you can still easily record gameplay footage just like you used to on the Xbox One. Fortunately, Microsoft has made sure that older Xbox accessories are compatible with the latest console. If you’re using an Xbox One controller, press the Guide during the game, then press X to record gameplay. When the gameplay recordings have been made, you will receive a notification to let you know that your recordings have been saved.
Record with a mobile device
Another way to capture footage is to use the Xbox app on your Android or iOS device. In the app, tap My library (symbolized as three books) and select Consoles. Select the Xbox you are currently playing on and tap Open Remote Control. The app screen layout shows a simplified version of the Xbox controller face buttons. Just like the Xbox controller itself, tap the Xbox Guide and select X to record what happened.
Access your recordings on your console and Xbox Live
Once your recordings are recorded, they can be saved to your Xbox, Xbox Live, OneDrive internal hard drive, or an external hard drive.
To access your recordings on your console, press the House button on your controller, and go to the Capture and share column. This column gives you access to all of your recordings and other recording options. Select Recent recordings gives you access to up to eight recent recordings, but if you want to see all your recordings, select the Show all button.
Xbox consoles default to 30 seconds to capture footage, but you can capture longer footage in Xbox settings.
In the Settings menu, select Preferences, and then Capture and share. This feature allows you to change the recording length, resolution, recording location and even what the share button does.
