Remove annoying contact suggestions in your iOS share sheet completely or temporarily «iOS & iPhone :: Gadget Hacks

Apple has always strived to make the stock sheet in iOS as useful a resource as possible. It has Action Extensions, Shared Extensions, Shortcuts, Activities, and Siri Suggestions, and you can even rearrange the buttons’ order to some degree. One thing you couldn’t change was Siri’s suggested contacts at the top. If you’ve always hated seeing those bubbles, iOS 14 has a way to get rid of them.

Suggested contacts appear as circles in the row above the share extensions, and they are shortcuts to share directly with contacts you communicate with regularly via AirDrop, Mail, Messages, Messenger, etc. They are great if you need them, but they are also make the share sheet full and show who you spoke to or shared media and other content with.

In iOS 1

3, if you weren’t satisfied with the way they looked or didn’t want people over your shoulder to see those suggested contacts, you didn’t have many options. You could delete conversations in Messages, delete entire contacts, and turn off AirDrop, but those were terrible solutions as they disrupt other parts of iOS.

Apple fixed the issue starting on iOS 14.0 when it quietly rolled out Siri Suggest controls when sharing. The controls eliminate the clunky methods of the past as you can now tinker with the suggestions right on your iPhone.

Option 1: Delete all contact suggestions in the share sheet

To eliminate all suggested contacts in the share sheet, Apple baked in a kill-all switch. Simply open Settings, tap “Siri & Search” and turn off the “Sharing Suggestions” toggle. The next time you load an activity view, the entire row where your suggested contacts were will disappear.

Option 2: Remove suggestions individually from the share sheet

If you like having suggested contacts but want to remove individual contacts from the list, there is an easy way to do that. Just long press on the contact you want to delete and then select “Suggest less” from the popup window. That contact will then disappear, just the way you want it, and shouldn’t appear as often as before.

To be clear, “Suggest less” is not quite the same as “removing” contacts from the suggestion row. What you do is tell iOS you want this contact to show less. Theoretically, if it’s a contact that you don’t message often, iOS should prevent it from showing up in activity views. However, don’t be surprised to see it again if you’ve messaged that person recently.

That means it is also not a good method to delete all contacts from suggestion menu. If you tap ‘Suggest less’ for each contact in this row, they will eventually all disappear. However, the next time you share something in iOS, a new row of suggested contacts may appear. Instead, use option 1 above to erase them all forever.
