Reset a Ring Doorbell

When to reset your Ring Doorbell

When you reset your Ring doorbell, it forgets all existing settings. This can fix common bugs such as Wi-Fi connection issues and features not working properly. If there has been a power outage and your Ring is having problems, that is also a situation where you should try to reset your Ring.

It is also essential if you are selling, giving away, or otherwise disposing of your Ring. The person who receives your Ring will receive it in like-new condition and will not be linked to your Ring account.

How to Reset Your Ring Doorbell

You can reset your Ring doorbell to its factory settings in just a few minutes. This can solve many of the problems you may be experiencing. Your Ring will be in near-new condition.

Use the ring screwdriver that came with the device or a Torx 15 screwdriver to loosen the bottom screws on the device – there may be one or more depending on the model.

While holding your Ring to prevent it from falling, pull the front cover forward and away from the unit to release it from the mounting bracket.

Look for the orange Reset button. Depending on your model, it is located on the front, side or back.

Hold the button for at least 15 seconds.

Release the button and see if the round ring on the front starts flashing. The flashing indicates that the device is being reset. If you don’t see any flashes, press and hold the reset button for 20 seconds.

After a few minutes, the circular ring should stop flashing, indicating that the hard reset is complete.

You can now put your device into setup mode by pressing the reset button once. You can reset your doorbell via the Ring app on your iPhone or Android phone.

How to Reset Your Ring Doorbell’s Wi-Fi

If your internet and Wi-Fi connection is working fine, but your Ring Doorbell still doesn’t connect, you may need to reset your Ring Doorbell’s Wi-Fi. By turning on the Wi-Fi, you can stream live images, receive notifications and more, so give this reset method a try:

Find the orange reset button on your Ring doorbell. Depending on your model, it is located on the front, side or back. Press the button once. You should see the round ring in the front start to spin.

Continue to follow the instructions in the Ring app as it will guide you to connect to your Wi-Fi network.

If your Wi-Fi is working fine, your Ring doorbell should connect in a few moments and everything should be fine!

Sell ​​or give away your Ring Doorbell

Your Ring doorbell captures and stores images online with your Ring account. If you disconnect the Ring doorbell from your Ring app, all recorded footage will be deleted. Even if you sell or give away your doorbell, the recipient will not be able to view your past recordings.

Make sure to save the footage you want to keep before removing the device from your app. You cannot recover the deleted images even if you reconnect the device.

To remove a doorbell from your Ring account, open the Ring app and tap the name of the Ring doorbell you want to remove. Tap Device Settings at the bottom of the screen, scroll down and tap General Settings. Tap “Remove this device” to remove the doorbell from your account.
