The ability to reply directly to a specific post is a feature in Instagram’s cross-platform posts update. If you don’t already have it, you can enable the feature from the Settings menu of the app.
From the Instagram app on iPhone and Android, go to your ‘Profile’ tab and tap the hamburger menu button in the top right corner of the interface. Here go to Settings> Update Messages.
Now choose the button “Update”.
Respond directly to a message on Instagram for iPhone and Android
To start, open the “Instagram” app on your smartphone and then tap the “Messenger” icon in the top right corner of the Instagram home screen.
Choose a conversation.
Find a post to reply to here. Swipe right on the message until you see a reply button and let go. When replying to your own message, swipe left.
You can also press and hold a message and tap the “Reply” button.
You will now see the original message appear at the top of the text box. This means that your current response will be associated with the specific post.
Now type your answer and tap the “Send” button.
Your response will appear at the top along with the original message so that everyone can easily see what you responded to.
Respond directly to a post on Instagram for web
Once you’ve updated to the new cross-platform messaging, the ability to reply to a specific message will also be available for Instagram on the web.

To access this feature, open the Instagram website in a web browser on your computer and navigate to the Messages (DM) section.
Choose a conversation from the left side of the screen.
In Conversation view, find the message you want to reply directly to and hover over it. Click on the “Reply” button here.
Then enter a message in the text box and click the “Send” button.
The original message will now be added as an attachment to your reply.
