Security systems and cameras may make you feel better when you leave home or go to bed at night, but they can be annoying. And they only do well if you remember to turn them on. Ring wants to help with a new Geofence feature that prevents annoyances and turns on your Ring Alarm System automatically when you leave home.
As the name suggests, Geofence works based on your location. You need the Ring app on your phone to take advantage of this, but if you have Ring cameras or the Ring security system, you probably already have the app.
After installing the app, you can go to the new Geofence setting and add your location. It works like similar functions on other systems; you create a “ring”
The first, arming / disarming reminders, help to remind you to arm and disarm the system. When you leave the house, Ring notices and sees that your Ring security system has not been activated. So it sends you a reminder in case you forget. When you return, it will send you a similar reminder to turn off the system. This should help prevent unpleasant surprises.
The second feature, Auto Snooze, helps avoid annoying notifications that you will encounter if you own a video doorbell and indoor cameras. Usually cameras want to notify you of any movement they see. So when you get home, your video doorbell will tell you that you are home. And your cameras let you know that you are in the house.
You already know that, so the notifications boil down to unwanted noise. The Auto Snooze function recognizes that you are at home and turns off those notifications. So when you walk to your door, you will not get a doorbell notification that you have arrived.
Geofence is a free update for all Ring users and available for Ring Alarm security systems, doorbells and security systems. And if you decide you don’t like it, you can turn it off again. Geofence is now being rolled out.
