Samsung Good Lock is a somewhat powerful app for Samsung devices. It includes various customization options, including themes & # 39; s, UI customizations, and more. It is not a new app and was originally launched in 2016. However, Samsung updated Good Lock on 3 February 2020 with support for Android 10 and One UI 2.0. Here is everything that Samsung Good Lock can do.
How to download and install Samsung Good Lock
Samsung Good Lock is easy enough to find, but it is only available on Samsung devices. Just open the Galaxy Store app and search for Good Lock. You can also press the button below if you want to go there now.
However, that is not the entire process. Good Lock has a number of modules and each module is its own app. So when you open the app and select an option, you will be sent back to the Galaxy Store to install that specific module. There are a total of ten modules, so prepare your fingers to download a lot of things.
Samsung Good Lock comes with ten total modules that can all be downloaded from the Galaxy Store. However, there is a positive point here. You can remove or simply not install the modules that you do not want to use. It saves space and only lets you adjust what you want to adjust. We do not expect that many people will download all ten modules.
What every Samsung Good Lock module does
Let's talk briefly about each module and what it does. Each module works with Android 10 and One UI 2.0, something that was not true before the February 2020 update. The modules are fairly simple and do not require much explanation. You can open them all via the Good Lock app.
QuickStar adds a theme to your Quick Settings menu once it is activated. It comes with around eight presets with different colors, or you can add one yourself. Once you choose to add your own color, choose a color. When you're done, with Samsung you can choose the icon colors while each setting is on or off, the font color and the background color. You can also add transparency (via the Panel BG Alpha slider) and a blur effect with a Blue amount slider. That is actually all it does and it is very easy to use. For the record, QuickStar overrides the theme from Theme Park and the system's dark mode switch. If you use QuickStar, your fast settings will be retained until you disable QuickStar.
Task Changer lets you change the appearance of the Recent apps menu. This Samsung Good Lock module is also simple. You simply choose the desired layout and add an optional blur effect. Your Recent Apps menu then changes to the layout that you choose. There are only six options, but these include super-simple options such as Slim List and Regular list, along with old favorites such as Vertical Stack.
MultiStar is an adjustment option for your multi-window experience. The options here are surprisingly varied and contain many options. For example, you can set the app to quickly launch multiple windows by long pressing the Recent apps button. You can also open it in a split screen or in a pop-up view, just like the Picture-in-Picture mode of Android.
You can also force multi-window for all apps, even if they do not have native support. In addition, you can prevent the operating system from killing every app's process in pop-up view or with multiple windows. Our favorite, however, is the ability to create a pop-up window for each app by swiping from the corners.
NotiStar is very similar to MultiStar but for notifications. You can select the apps for which you want notifications or put them on the black list that you do not want. You can also add a filter that contains both keywords and apps. For example, you can receive SMS notifications, but only if they include the word & # 39; emergency & # 39; contain. You can also set this to work on the lock screen and it will save notifications indefinitely, a week or 30 days, depending on your preferences. This is definitely one of the most powerful Samsung Good Lock functions available.
With Theme Park you can create your own custom theme. You will be asked to select an image from your gallery, download folder or another album. From there you can select a main color and use the other colors from the image as accent colors. It also supports the dark mode and the version in the dark mode is independent of the version in the light mode. You simply switch on the dark mode in the settings to get the dark mode version of every theme that you create with Theme Park in Samsung Good Lock. The app leads you to the theme store to enable it. We will be honest, it crashed a few times during testing and it has some bugs that we would like to see resolved. However, the ability to create a theme with any background in my Note 10 Plus is worth the effort.
Operation with one hand Plus
With One Hand Operation Plus you can configure the Android 10 gesture control. Namely the part that you can swipe from the side to go back. It allows these actions to exist without removing the softkeys at the bottom of the screen, something vanilla-Android should still let you do. However, you can also configure it to allow different directional swipes to do different things. For example, if you swipe in from both sides and then up before releasing, the Recent Apps menu opens.
Each side can be configured with three different swipe movements (swipe up and up, swipe out and down and the normal swipe) for a total of six configurable hot keys. You can set them to the usual home, back, and recent apps. Some extra options in this Samsung Good Lock module include closing an app, turning off the screen, taking a screenshot, showing / hiding the navigation bar, opening the notification panel, opening the menu , continue (in the browser) and turn on the flashlight.
Edge Lighting Plus
Edge Lighting Plus is an extension of the Edge Lighting function on Samsung devices. It actually doesn't do much by itself and you basically control all functions of Edge Lighting from the Settings menu. However, Edge Lighting Plus offers you a few options for light effects and also allows you to change the color, speed and transparency of light effects. You can also open this in the normal Edge Lighting section of the Settings menu.
Edge Touch is a potentially useful app if unintended touch an ech t problem for you. This allows you to manually configure the parts of the screen that refuse unintended touch. This feature already exists as standard on Samsung phones without an app. With this Samsung Good Lock module you can, however, increase or decrease the size for better use. We recommend that you use the Edge Edge Zones option so that you can see where Samsung places unintended touch protection by default before attempting to tamper with it.
Finally, you can configure apps to only allow audio when headphones or other audio devices are connected.
Using Samsung Good Lock 2020
The app itself has a lot of various things you can do and it’s quite easy to spend a whole day configuring various things. Aside from just testing the features, I created a separate theme for all seven of my favorite wallpapers, set it up so I could adjust my mobile game audio independently of my media volume, and set it so the only app that can make sounds while my music app works is my SMS and phone dialer apps so I don’t hear email notifications over my music anymore.
Most of the rest of the features are power user stuff. The only module I didn’t really have any use for was the NotiStar, but I am one person and others may find it more useful than I did. Still, I plan on configuring gesture controls eventually and using Nice Catch to find out which app keeps popping up the toast message that it could not connect and to check my Internet connection.
Using Good Lock almost feels like using a custom ROM again.
In short, Samsung Good Lock is fantastic for power users like me. It adds that extra layer of configuration and theming that, to be honest, I only ever previously received from custom ROMs back in my root days. Something like Magisk Manager has more options, more powerful modules, and more configuration.
However, the fact that something like Good Lock exists on a phone without root makes me hopeful for the future. There are bugs, though, and sometimes the configuration is just barely not powerful enough. For instance, you have to start Theme Park with an image from your gallery and I would’ve liked to make a theme from scratch. In any case, any power user with a Samsung phone should check out Good Lock.
If we missed any big Samsung Good Lock features, tell us about them in the comments! What is your favorite part of the app or, consequently, what don’t you like about it?
