If you skipped the Oscars last night, you missed a surprise from Samsung. We are just a day away from the company's Unpacked 2020 event, where we expect to launch new phones, but the company decided not to wait. Last night everyone in the US who saw the Oscars saw the Z Flip in all its glory.
If you were not expecting an advertisement for an unannounced phone at the Oscars, you are not alone. But in the blink of an eye, Samsung gave us the clearest picture of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip phone to date. And although the 30-second site did not reveal any specifications or prices, it did confirm a few things.

Allegedly, the form factor of the Z Flip differs enormously from the Galaxy Fold and looks more like the foldable Razr from Motorola. Instead of acting as a smartphone that can be folded into a tablet, it seems to be going in the opposite direction. When you use it, it looks like a smartphone; when you're done, fold it down like a flip phone.
Although the (simulated) screen of the phone looked nice in advertising, the small text tells us more. Squint, and you'll see the words: "You can see a fold in the center of the main screen, which is a natural feature of the screen."
The Z Flip does not seem to fold as flat as the Razr either, with just a touch of V-shaped bump reminiscent of the Surface Book. And it seems that you have some color choices (including purple) if you are brave enough to jump on the company's second folding phone.
The commercial told us nothing essential, such as a release date or information about the provider. But we expect to hear more tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Samsung Unpacked event tomorrow (11 February). Eastern.
