Samsung introduced its first Bluetooth item tracker, the Galaxy SmartTag, in January at the Unpacked event. It also debuted with its SmartTag + tracker, which would be available later in 2021. Now the SmartTag + appears to be available for pre-order from B&H for $ 40, and will reportedly ship on April 1
The Galaxy SmartTag + is the premium upgraded version of Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag. It uses ultra-wideband technology (UWB) – a short-range wireless communication protocol – instead of Bluetooth for more accurate tracking. You use it with an augmented reality map on the SmartThings app (on iOS and Android) for guidance to the tracker. The pre-order page shows it’s available in both black and oatmeal colors, which is nice.
Both features give Samsung an edge over tracker competitors such as Tile and Apple. They’re slated to appear in Tile’s next tracker, and we may also be able to see them in Apple’s AirTags.
