A QR code is a fun and convenient way to link people to a website or app. On iOS, you have a few ways to scan these codes. You can download a QR scanner to get the job done, but Apple built one into iOS. Or you can add the QR Code Reader tile in Control Center, but it's not even necessary. There is a better way, which in fact takes no effort to get started.
First launch your iPhone's camera app as you normally would – via the lock screen shortcut, home screen icon, Siri or whatever – then focus on a QR code. That is it. A Safari banner should appear that, when you tap it, will take you to the QR code website or redirect you to the app it works with. It is definitely better than a special QR code reader control that you have to add manually.
No QR code? First, make sure you are in Photo mode with the rear camera. If you have set the Camera app to keep your last used settings, like if you always wanted it to open in portrait mode, it may not open in photo mode, the only mode that can scan QR codes. If that's not the problem, open the Settings app, tap "Camera" and make sure the toggle next to "Scan QR Codes" is turned on.
