
One of the easiest ways to distinguish a chat is to use a unique background. This way you will not accidentally send messages. Here̵
You can give a chat (group chat or individual chat) a custom background quite easily. You can select one of WhatsApp’s built-in options, or you can use your own photo.
Unlike Instagram, WhatsApp’s custom background feature is not synced for all users. As such, both parties can have their own custom chat background for the same conversation.

Set custom background for chats on WhatsApp for Android
To get started, open the WhatsApp app on your Android smartphone. Go to the “Chats” section here and open a WhatsApp conversation.
Tap the menu button in the toolbar and choose the “Wallpaper” option.
Here you will see a number of options: ‘Bright’, ‘Dark’, ‘Solid colors’ and ‘My photos’.
Here, scroll through the photos and tap a photo to view it.
Then tap the “Set Wallpaper” option.
In the pop-up window, make sure to select the “For this chat” option and tap the “OK” button.
You will now see the updated background for the conversation.
If you want to remove the custom background, tap the menu button, go to the “Wallpaper” section, tap the “Change” button, select the “Remove custom background” option, then tap “Remove” to confirm the change .
Set custom background for chats on WhatsApp for iPhone
The process for iPhone users is slightly different. Open WhatsApp on your iPhone and go to a conversation. Here, tap the profile picture or name at the top for the chat.
Select ‘Background and sound’ here.
Now select the option “Choose a new background”.
From the next screen you can browse the wallpaper collections “Bright”, “Dark” and “Solid Colors”. If you want to select your own image as the background, choose the “Photos” option.
After you select a photo, you can resize it to the chat window.
When you are satisfied, tap the “Set” button.
Now go back to the chat and you will see the new custom background in the chat background.
If you want to remove the custom background, go to Background & sound> Choose a new background and tap the option “Remove custom background”. Then select the “Delete custom background” button to confirm.
