Set up and activate location-based reminders on your iPhone «iOS & iPhone :: Gadgethacks



Apple & # 39; s Reminders app is essential for those of us with a forgetful memory. But a standard mention of Reminders is not watertight. They are not great if you have to do something well if you get somewhere somewhere because it can be difficult to set a specific time for that memory. That is why Apple's location-based memories are so useful.

Location-based memories are nothing new for iOS. In fact, the feature has been launched alongside the first iteration of Memories far back in iOS 5. Every iPhone since the 4 has been able to create a geofence around a specific location that triggers a reminder when you arrive or leave that area.

If you use iOS 13, you can create location-based reminders faster than ever. Don't worry if your iPhone does not have iOS 13. You can still enable location-based reminders. Just go to the next section below to see how.

Step 1: Create a new reminder

First open your Reminders app, tap a list and then tap "New reminder" in the lower left corner of the display. Then tap the Location icon in the quick toolbar above the keyboard. If Location Services are not enabled, iOS will prompt you to enable it.

Step 2: Choose your location

Here you can choose from "Arrive home" (retrieved from Apple Maps, only if you have your home address set in Contacts), "Arrived work" (idem, but then for your work address ) or "Get in the car" (when you connect your car to your iPhone via Bluetooth).

You can also enter a "Custom" location by tap the ellipse icon. You can tap any of the suggested locations (including your current location) or enter a location manually via the search bar.

Step 3: Customize your location-based reminders

If you choose a custom location, you will see new ones settings appear at the bottom of the screen. If you have chosen one of the preset location options, you can find these settings by tapping the blue "i" next to the reminder itself and then tapping "Location" under "Remind me of a location".

Here you can choose whether you want to receive a reminder when you arrive at the location or leave the location. The "Leave" option is useful for things like remembering to turn off the lights or retrieve dog food once you have left your home, while the "Arrive" option works better for, for example, reminders about sending someone an update as soon as you location.

To change your geofence, drag the black dot in or out. You can choose a radius that varies from 100 meters to around 150 miles.

Step 4: Save the location-based reminders

If you have selected one of the preset locations or If you have selected "Custom", you are all set! Reminder saved and ready for action. However, if you have edited the geofence for the preset locations, you must tap "Details" and then "Done" to save your reminder.

Setting a location-based reminder on the long road (<iOS 13)

If you are not using iOS 13 or if you just want to know another way to set location-based reminders, this is this share something for you. Although this method is a bit more out of the way compared to the fast toolbar of iOS 13, you will find it similar in many ways. It is also largely unchanged since the introduction far back in iOS 5:

Step 1: Create a new reminder

Open your Reminders app, tap a list, and then tap "New reminder" in the bottom left corner off the screen. Then tap the blue "i" that appears on the right side of the reminder.

Step 2: Set a location for the reminder

Tap the switch next to "Remind me of a location" and then tap "Location" below it to choose the desired location. tap the suggested locations (including your current location) and manually enter a location via the search bar.

Step 3: Customize your location-based reminder
