Set up Chromecast with your smartphone’s Android Authority

Have you just bought a brand new Chromecast without knowing how to set it up? Or maybe you set it up a long time ago, lost the instructions and now need to reconnect it. Whatever the reason, don’t worry – Android authority is here to help you set up the Chromecast.

If you haven’t bought a Chromecast yet, consider this. The basic version costs only $ 29.99 and it allows you to send content from your phone, tablet and sometimes even a computer to a TV. Depending on your needs, it can be a complete replacement for real smart TV devices. Some of us here at Android authority would say it’s the best $ 30 we’ve spent in a while.

There are now two Chromecast versions at this stage; the standard model and the Chromecast Ultra, which streams video content in 4K resolution. However, the setup for both devices is the same.

Setting up the Chromecast with Google TV adds a few extra steps, so we’re going to discuss that process in this article as well.

Set up Chromecast

To start, connect your Chromecast to the HDMI input of your TV and also to the USB port of your TV. If there is no free USB port on your TV (or if it is in use), you can use the supplied power adapter to connect the device to a power outlet. Then change your TV’s input channel to the channel your Chromecast is connected to.

Okay, before we can set things up, we also need to do a few things on your phone:

  1. Download the Google Home Android app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Open the app, accept the terms and conditions, log in to your Google account and follow the instructions.
  2. The main page should appear after the initial setup is complete. Crane Addthen tap Set up devicesand finally tap Set up new devices as soon as you see your Chromecast appear.
  3. Confirm which Google account you want to use for your Chromecast. Allow the app to use Location services and tap OK.
  4. The app should then start scanning for your connected Chromecast. When it appears on your app screen, tap The next.

Third-generation Chromecast

A few more steps related to the app and the TV are needed:

  1. The TV should display a code to confirm the Chromecast is connected to your app. In that case, tap Yes.
  2. You may be asked to send device statistics and crash reports to Google. Crane Yes, I participate, if you want or No thank you if you don’t.
  3. You can then choose the room in your house where the Chromecast is located or create your own name by tapping Add a custom room and type the room name.
  4. Then you will be asked to choose a Wi-Fi network for your Chromecast. Go through the necessary steps and then select Set network.
  5. Your Chromecast may receive some software updates. Just wait for them to finish.
  6. Your Chromecast device should start. After that, you are ready to enjoy your Google Cast experience!

Once everything is set up, compatible applications on your devices should display a Cast icon when connected to the same Wi-Fi network. If you are watching a YouTube video, click the Cast icon and select your specific device. The content appears on your large TV and you can easily control it with your smartphone. Very easy!


Set up Chromecast with Google TV

You need to get started in the same way with the Chromecast with Google TV. Connect the device to your TV via the HDMI port and plug the power cable into a power outlet. You can also use hardwired with an Ethernet port for better Internet performance. Turn on your TV and switch it to the HDMI source that you connected the Chromecast to.

To configure Chromecast with Google TV with a phone:

  1. Connect your phone to the Wi-Fi network to which you want to connect your Chromecast with Google TV.
  2. Download the Google Home Android app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Open the app, accept the terms and conditions, log in to your Google account and follow the instructions.
  3. The main page should appear after the initial setup is complete. Crane Addthen tap Set up devicesand finally tap Set up new devices as soon as you see your Chromecast appear.
  4. A QR code should appear on the screen, scan it with your phone. Wait for the device to connect.
  5. Follow the instructions and let the Chromecast with Google TV complete the installation.

Set up the remote control:

Your remote should set up automatically, but if for some reason it doesn’t just follow these steps.

  1. If the remote isn’t set up, you could use a Control the volume and power with your Chromecast remote Announcement.
  2. Select Remote setting.
  3. To configure the volume button, go ahead and select the brand of device used to play sound.
  4. The TV should say now Then you hear music. Make sure the audio device (TV or speakers) and select The next.
  5. When you hear the music point on your device with the remote and try to adjust the volume.
  6. The user interface will ask if changing the volume worked. Select Yes or No, try again.
  7. To configure the power button, turn off the TV by pressing the power button on your remote. Wait eight seconds and turn it back on.
  8. The user interface will ask you if turning the TV on / off worked. Select Yes or No, try again.
  9. Point your remote at the TV to configure the input button and try going through the input methods. Then switch back to the input source that your Chromecast is connected to.
  10. The UI will ask you if the button worked. Select Yes or No, try again.
  11. You’re done! The screen should now say Chromecast remote is ready.
