With each new generation of consoles comes a mix of new and exciting features, as well as the loss of smaller conveniences. One of the biggest movements still underway is the growth of the digital games market. Every year, more and more games are sold digitally, which is great for many reasons. It’s convenient, you don’t have to go out to buy a game, you can’t lose or damage it, and it doesn’t take up physical space.
One of the biggest drawbacks of digital games has always been the fear of not being able to share your games, but the Xbox Series X has a solution. While it’s not absolutely perfect, here’s everything you need to know about sharing your digital library via gameshare.
How gameshare works
Gamesharing almost feels like an exploit when you split it up, but as long as you know and trust the person you̵
So if you made someone else’s Series X your home console, and yours, anything you buy digitally could be used by the other. As long as you are logged into your account on your own console, you can still access your library. Just know that you can only have one Xbox, Series X or otherwise at a time if your home console. Also, you can only change which console is your home console five times a year, so you can’t switch too often with who you share. Other than that, the only real limitation to game sharing is the fact that you can’t download someone else’s physical games – you’ll have to share them the old-fashioned way. You can even play both the same title at the same time if you want.
Set up gameshare
With Gameshare on Xbox Series X, you and a friend or family member can share any digital games purchased on your console. This includes titles that you can access through Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. Make sure you trust whoever you are going to share games with as you will need to put your account on their console to set it up. That means that even after you log back in to your own console, they can still access your account through their Xbox.
The first step is to sign in to the Series X console you want to share with or have the owner of that console sign in to your console. To add your account to another Xbox, open the guide and select Profile and System> Add New. You can then enter your existing account information. On the second console, open the guide by pressing the menu button and go to Profile & System> Settings> General> Personalization> My home Xbox> Make this my home Xbox. If you want sharing to work both ways so that your friend or family member can access all your games and you can access all of theirs and have them repeat the same process to make your Xbox their home Xbox.
And that’s it – you and your friend or family member can now buy, download and play any game you have or want to buy. You won’t lose access to anything, but since you’ve set someone else’s Xbox as your home console, you must be signed in to your account to play. This is a great way to save money, share your favorite games with friends and family, or make it easier to access your games if you have multiple consoles.
