The word war has since continued. In a statement to Variety Spotify said "every monopolist suggests that they have done nothing wrong" and that Apple's response was "fully in line" with their expectations.
Every monopolist will suggest that they have done nothing wrong and will argue that they have the best interests of competitors and consumers. In this way, Apple's response to our complaint to the European Commission is not new and fully in line with our expectations.
We filed our complaint because Apple's actions were damaging competition and consumers and clearly contravening the law. This is evident from Apple's belief that Spotify users on the IOS are Apple customers and not Spotify customers, which underlies Apple's problem. We respect the process that the European Commission must now undertake to carry out its review.
