Are you part of the SSI or SSDI programs – an abbreviation of Supplemental Security Income or Social Security Disability Insurance? If this is the case, you would automatically use the first two stimulus controls, according to the IRS. That eligibility rules will probably stay the same for one third stimulus check of maximum $ 1,400 per person, which could potentially be approved by the end of February. Here is the stimulus check timeline as we know it.

However, some questions about the first two checks may remain. What to do if your $ 1,200 first or $ 600 second payment, in front of any reason whatsoever? While the details are still being finalized, it seems likely that people receiving SSI and SSDI will again automatically qualify for a third $ 1,400 stimulus check, as they did for the first and second rounds of payment. For the first two rounds, those individuals were eligible as long as they had a Social Security number and were not claimed as a dependent on someone else’s tax return, and as long as the family income did not exceed the established threshold ($ 75,000 single, $ 112,500 householder, $ 150,000 married).

However, President Joe Biden’s $ 1.9 trillion stimulus proposal increases the right to incentives payments for dependents of all ages, including young adults from 17 to 24 years old and older adult dependents. It would also increase the amount allocated to those dependents $ 1400 each. Congress is also debating how “targeted” the third party controls should be – it is possible that the income threshold will be lower, so some families could get more money, while others might get less or none at all.

Why has my first or second payment never arrived?

According to the IRS, people who receive Social Security pension, SSDI, railroad retirement benefits, and supplemental security income, as well as veteran case beneficiaries, have so far been automatically eligible for both payments. At the first check, you may find that may have seized a payment in front of child benefits or to pay a certain kind of creditor, but the rules changed with a second check. What should I do if I have not filed a tax return in recent years?

If you receive federal benefits, including SSI and SSDI, as your only form of income, you were not required to file a federal income tax return in 2018 or 2019. According to the CARES law you still were qualify for a stimulus check, and should have received one automatically (no need to file a simple tax return, as the IRS originally said).

How will my incentive money be delivered to me?

Most SSI and SSDI recipients did not receive their initial payments through their Direct Express card, although this is usually what the government uses to distribute federal benefits. Instead, the payment came in through a non-Direct Express bank account or as a paper check if you hadn’t registered your bank account information with the IRS.

For the second round of payments, the IRS said on its website that SSI and SSDI recipients should have gotten their stimulus check money the same way they received their first stimulus checks, possibly sooner, since the IRS has already set up the payment system. For those who received the first round of payment through Direct Express, they should have received the second payment the same way, the IRS said. It’s likely that the same is true for a third check, if one is sent (here is a possible timeline for when the IRS could issue a third check).

If you receive SSI but no Social Security benefits and have not filed for tax in 2019, the IRS will automatically send your payment the same way you normally receive your SSI benefits, such as by direct deposit, Direct Express card or paper check.

Are my children eligible for a stimulus check?

Check for the second stimulus as long as your kids were 16 years old or younger, they would contribute $ 600 towards the final total of your household’s second stimulus check. You can use our stimulus check calculator to calculate your family’s total estimate.

Under the CARES Act, qualified people with dependents aged 16 or younger were eligible for up to $ 500 per dependent child, but not everyone actually receive that extra money.

Do I get a catch-up allowance for my family members?

If you used the IRS’s Non-Filers tool from May 5 to August 15, 2020, the IRS should have automatically issued the catch-up allowance for your dependents in October 2020. If you have your original incentive money by direct deposit, you should have received the catch-up in the same way. Others would have received it by mail.

If you applied for your missing dependent money before November 21, the payment should have been received by the end of 2020 the same way you received your first payment (likely direct deposit or mail). If you missed the deadline, your check will be attached on your 2020 tax return in 2021.

What if I receive SSI or SSDI benefits but live outside the US?

If you are a Social Security beneficiary with a foreign address whose monthly benefit is deposited into a foreign bank account, you will receive your incentive payment as a check in the mail. (The IRS is not intended to fund foreign banks.) The IRS planned to send the first set of checks to those recipients in late July 2020. If you live abroad but receive your monthly benefits through a US bank, you should also have received your first payment by the end of July through a direct deposit into that account. It is not clear what will happen to this group with the second check, but if it is not distributed by January 15, it must be claimed as part of a tax return.
