As of Wednesday, May 13, the IRS said you can no longer use the Get My Payment tool to make a direct deposit to your bank account to receive your check electronically. If you submitted your bank account details for your economic impact payment [20209005] 2020 to the IRS before the deadline, you are expected to receive your incentive payment through a direct deposit.

But as of Thursday morning, the Get My Payment portal still says that you can provide your bank account information. We asked the IRS for clarification. So what's going on now?

You will receive your stimulus check by mail

Missing the IRS deadline for setting up direct deposit does not prevent you from getting government incentive check payment up to $ 1,200 per person as long as you are eligible to receive it .

The advantage of setting up a direct deposit was that you would receive your money faster through wire transfer to your bank account than through the US Postal Service. Now you need to look for a paper check to arrive by mail if the IRS didn't already have your bank account details. After Wednesday, the IRS said it plans to increase the number of paper checks it sends, and they should arrive until the end of May and into June, the tax authorities said. We've contacted the IRS for clarification.

How can I find out when I get my stimulus check?

There are two ways to do this. You can still use the Get My Payment portal to check the status of your payment and see an expected deposit date. See below for more details.

Another way to check is through a free US Postal Service program that can inform you when it is on its way.
