A second stimulus control has been plucked from the brink as negotiators have reportedly agreed to make one more direct payment in the $ 900 Billion COVID-19 Aid Package currently underway, after weeks of submitting proposals that dropped the additional funding. A second stimulus control would come in for half of the $ 1,200 payment of the original check, a maximum of $ 600 for eligible adults and their dependents, The Washington Post reported Thursday.

Notably, the $ 600 incentive money could also be reserved for dependents of any age. The change, if it happens, could potentially involve up to 15 million new people who would count for an additional $ 600 each per household, according to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

A vote for the $ 900 billion incentive bill could arrive in days, according to reports, with legislation kicking off in the House of Representatives, before moving through to the Senate and then, as it passes through both houses, to President Donald Trump’s office for a signature.

“McConnell told Senate Republicans to be willing to be here all weekend to prepare COVID / spending bills,” tweeted NBC News political correspondent Garrett Haake, Wednesday.

Senator Joe Manchin estimates that the Senate will “likely” vote on COVID omnibus package on Saturday, “Hill writer Alex Bolton tweeted Wednesday.

A proposal for coronavirus assistance before January 1 is considered emergency legislation to establish a safety net for expiring benefits that can leave tens of millions unemployed Americans with no income and millions of households being evicted. A big deal like the $ 2 trillion CARES Act of March, that one $ 1,200 stimulus check for most Americans more likely to return to the table in early 2021, top American leaders have suggested.

President Donald Trump has also called for “more money than they are talking about” in stimulus checks, and has continued to push for a second check in the final bill.

White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany did not say whether Trump would refuse to sign a stimulus package that did not include a second check, but said on Tuesday that Trump “would really like to see those stimulus checks there.”

Stimulus control isn’t cheap. The IRS said this summer it had spent $ 270 billion sending 160 million checks, and on Monday Senator Mitt Romney, a Republican involved in drafting the bipartisan stimulus proposal, predicted a cost of $ 300 billion if the checks once were charged again for $ 1,200 per person. Republicans have reportedly curbed the charges.

Although the clock is ticking, America’s top leaders seem determined to negotiate a stimulus deal.

“Guess what, if we don’t act, a lot of people won’t have a home to go to this holiday season,” Manchin said from the Senate floor on Wednesday. “Failure is not an option.”

“We’re not leaving here without a COVID package. It’s not going to happen. We’ll stay here until we have a COVID package,” Senate Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday. “It doesn’t matter how long it takes, we’ll be there.”

Here’s what we know about where the negotiations are now and what could happen before the end of the year.

Where did this new $ 900 billion stimulus package come from?

The $ 900 billion stimulus proposal is the latest variant of a $ 908 billion proposal from Dec. 1 that was split into two parts by Monday. The first is a $ 748 billion core bill, which includes unemployment finance and other measures. The second is a $ 160 billion bill that removes the two most controversial issues that could capsize an agreement: money for state, local and tribal funding on the one hand; and a liability shield to protect companies from coronavirus litigation.

Neither lob of the two-part stimulus deal contained one second stimulus control, but now that the thorniest issues have been cleared up, the main Democratic and Republican negotiators are seizing the monetary wiggle room to finance the popular stimulus check at a discounted rate.

A smaller one second stimulus control would be one way to keep costs below the $ 1 trillion mark that Republican lawmakers have said in the past they would support. Last week, the White House offered a $ 918 billion plan with $ 600 maximum stimulus checks. That was rejected by Democratic leaders because the proposal was cutting too $ 300 in weekly federal unemployment insurance that would help support job seekers until April.

What happens next with a stimulus package?

First, the incentive law would have to be approved by the House of Representatives and the Senate. Now if both chambers work together on a deal, chances are it will. Next, Trump would have to sign the bailout bill. After that, aid would likely start to go out within weeks, with certain groups potentially getting financial aid before the end of 2020.

If an invoice is accepted that includes a direct payment, here is the following: how soon we think the IRS can send a second stimulus check.

Will there be another stimulus package in 2021?

Biden, McConnell and others have repeatedly described this December bill as emergency relief rather than a comprehensive economic stimulus package, and have committed to a new stimulus bill in 2021.

“It’s a down payment,” Biden said on December 16. “A major down payment for what is due in late January and early February. But it’s really important to get it done.”

Here’s everything we now know about the chances of a third stimulus check in 2021.
