Switching from Android to the iPhone 11: here's the fastest way

You have purchased a new iPhone 11 ($ 699 from Amazon) for yourself, or you may have purchased an iPhone 11 Pro with its amazing triple rear camera & # 39; s . The only problem is that all your stuff is on your old Android phone. But just as Samsung and Google made it easy to switch from an iPhone to a Pixel 3 ($ 813 at Walmart) or Galaxy Note ($ 950 at Best Buy) 10, Apple has an easy way to move all your data to your new iPhone. It is an Android app that Apple has made, called Move To iOS.

This process will transfer contacts, message history, website bookmarks, email accounts, calendars, photos & videos & # 39; s and download Android apps that are free in the iOS App Store. In our tests, this process worked with phones with Android 8.1

or earlier. I tried to make it work on phones with Android 9 Pie, but the two phones didn't want to connect.

On the one hand, I think that many people upgrade older phones with older versions of Android. But on the other hand, by the time you read this story, Move To iOS may work with Android 9 Pie. We have contacted Apple, but have not heard anything yet.

If you want to follow step by step, check out our How to Switch from Android to iPhone at the top of this story.

Transferring data from Android 8.1 or earlier

Because we transfer data, the first thing you want to do is charge both phones. Once the batteries are topped up, connect your Android phone to Wi-Fi.

If you use Chrome on your phone and want to transfer your bookmarks, make sure that the app is up-to-date before you start the transfer process. [19659003] Then switch on your new iPhone and follow the instructions until you reach the screen Apps & Data . Select Move data from Android .

Install Move To iOS on your Android phone from the Google Play Store and then open it. Back on your iPhone, tap Continue on the Move from Android screen. A 6 or 10 digit code appears.

A code appears on your iPhone. Type the code on your old Android phone to start the transfer process when prompted.

Return to your Android phone and tap Continue on the Move to iOS screen and then read the Terms and Conditions and press Agree . On the Find your code screen, tap Next in the upper right corner. Then enter the 6 or 10 digit code when prompted.

Then, on your Android device, select the content that you want to move to your iPhone on the Transfer Data screen and tap Next .

This process may take a while, so I recommend starting it before you go to bed or another time when you do not use your phone for a while. Keep in mind that even if your Android phone indicates that the process is complete, both phones must remain alone until the loading bar on your iPhone is complete.

Then follow the steps on the screen to complete the configuration of your iPhone. After the transfer is complete, download all free apps that are linked in the App Store. Finally, ensure that all your content is transferred by browsing through your photo gallery.

All music, books or PDFs on your Android device must be moved manually. But you can download all of this from your Android phone with the Android File Transfer app on Mac or PC. Then you can add them to iTunes and sync with your iPhone or upload to iCloud Drive.

If you are transferring from Android 9 Pie or newer

If you are working on a phone with Android 9 Pie and you are transferring to an iPhone, I recommend trying Move To iOS. If it doesn't work, there are third-party apps for Macs and PCs that should. A popular app is AnyTrans.

Finally, if you invest a lot in the Google ecosystem, you don't have to leave it behind when using an iPhone. There are dozens and dozens of Google apps for iOS, including: Google Chrome, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Maps, Google Photos, YouTube, Google Play Music, Google Play Books and Google Play Movies.

Hopefully this has helped make your transition from Android to iPhone easier. If you have tips or software that you have used to transfer your Android data to a new iPhone, mention it in the comments. Otherwise read our story about marking 11 hidden functions in iOS 13 .
