When DJI announced the first Mavic Air, it was positioned as a budget-friendly option compared to the company's premium line-up. But in exchange for the discounted price, customers gave up features and camera quality. With the Mavic Air 2, DJI has added all the safety and camera features that drone owners want at the consumer level.
Unlike the old Mavic Air, the Mavic Air 2 shares a design with the Mavic Mini and the Mavic 2 Pro / Zoom. The drone's four propellers are attached to arms that extend and unfold from the body of the device. The design allows for a more compact construction.
Unlike the Mavic Mini, the Mavic Air has 2 obstacle sensors on the front, back and bottom of the drone that help the pilot crash. DJI's Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) 3.0 update should help the vessel avoid obstacles. Most importantly, the Mavic Air 2 has a vastly improved camera that can match most prosumer drones. The 1/2-inch sensor can record 4K video at 60 fps and 120 mbps, 12 MP photos and 48 MP high-resolution images. In addition, the drone has intelligent tracking modes and fast recordings.
The Mavic Air 2 comes with a redesigned controller that looks like the company's standalone Smart Controller. Instead of two arms on the bottom of the controller holding your smartphone with friction, the new controller has a spring-loaded phone holder on the top of the device that holds your handset in place. The new system should be less cumbersome and more user-friendly.
In addition to the standard package of the Mavic Air 2 (with the controller, one battery and all necessary cables), DJI offers a Fly More combination. The combo consists of a travel case, two extra batteries, a charging station, ND filters (neutral density) and extra propellers. Since each battery provides up to 34 minutes of flight time, three resources give you more time to fly and less to charge.
Due to Logistical Problems Caused by During the Current Health Crisis COVID-19, DJI will postpone worldwide shipments until the end of May. You can pre-order the Mavic Air 2 directly from DJI today for $ 799. The Fly More combination can be yours for $ 988.
