The easiest way to find out where that viral TikTok number comes from «Smartphones :: Gadgethacks

Numbers new and old get a new purpose through the TikTok meme machine, but it can be difficult to figure out where a number originally comes from. Of course you can tap the song's name to see the source on TikTok, but if it was a clip uploaded by someone other than the song's creator, the song's title would probably not be mentioned. Fortunately, is an easy way to find out.

First you need to install Genius (iOS | Android) or Shazam (iOS | Android). These apps identify songs based on just a few seconds of playback, making them perfect tools for finding out TikTok songs. That said, we recommend Genius over Shazam in terms of simplicity.

Start a search in Genius by tapping the Soundwave button in the upper left of the app, switching to TikTok, playing the video with the audio on and then switching back to Genius. If the song is part of the Genius library, it is immediately displayed, as shown below.

Shazam also works, but is both less useful and much less reliable. First you must enable "Auto Shazam" by long pressing the Shazam button, because a standard search does not work when you leave the app. While Auto Shazam is on, play the TikTok video as you would for Genius and then return to Shazam. Instead of seeing the song right away, you should jump to your library by swiping to the right. If the number is listed in Shazam's library, you will find it under & # 39; Recent Shazams & # 39 ;.
