Rocket League is football with flying cars. Or, if you are American, football with flying cars. But next week you can try both ways when the multiplayer game adds a “Gridiron”
Gridiron mode replaces the normal soccer field with a soccer field and the ball with one hand, four players (cars) on one side. If you touch the ball, it will stick to your car, then you ‘run’ until you are tackled – the car you hit carries the ball. Single jumps are allowed, but using one of Rocket League’s signature double jumps will drop the ball. This mode includes out-of-bounds areas, seven-point touchdowns when carrying the ball in, and three-point field goals when the ball is not stuck.
Of course there are cosmetics to be won: wheels with the NFL logo, plus a “Gridiron Guru” player title and a lot of experience points. Players can also purchase the NFL Fan Pack, a set of car skins for every NFL team introduced last year.
