The Calculator app on your iPhone may seem boring and simple, but there are some interesting tricks you should know. You can ask Siri to do calculations for you, long press results to copy them, long press the field to insert numbers and swipe left or right above the keyboard to delete numbers one by one . The app can also be used as a scientific calculator with just a simple operation.
To turn the ordinary calculator into a scientific calculator, you just need to move your iPhone in a certain way. It's so simple that you've probably accidentally turned it on before, in which case you know how it works.
For those of you who haven't found it yet, open Calculator and rotate your iPhone from portrait to landscape. The app automatically switches to scientific mode and you can use it to perform logarithms, square roots, trigonometric calculations and more advanced mathematical equations. To switch back to the regular calculator, turn your phone to portrait mode.
If you cannot get the scientific calculator to appear, make sure that the portrait orientation lock is turned off. On iPhone models with Touch ID, you know that the screen is locked with the status bar icon, the lock symbol within a circular arrow (Face ID models don't show it).
Swipe up from the bottom to check screen (Touch ID models) or swipe down from the top right (Face ID models) to open Control Center. Make sure the lock icon is not highlighted. If that's the case, tap it to disable the portrait orientation lock. Then try the scientific calculator trick again.
