How to check the status and arrival of your stimulus control IRS can track
If you qualify for a check, the IRS can track your payment schedule through the Get My Payment web portal. Some people have reported problems using the portal, and the IRS said the Get My Payment app has been significantly improved to help you set and track the date of your stimulus payment.
1. Visit the IRS 'Get My Payment page and tap the blue Get My Payment button to check the status of your payment with economic impact.
2. On the next Authorized Use page, tap OK .
3. Now enter your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), your date of birth, your address, and your zip code or zip code on the Get My Payment page. Tap Continue .
On the next page, the portal shows your payment status, whether it is scheduled or if the service cannot determine your status yet.
How do I know if my check has been sent by post?
In April, the IRS began transferring the first stimulus payments to the accounts of tens of millions of US residents who set up a direct down payment to the government . However, not everyone receives an electronic transfer.
Until all checks go out, the Get My Payment app can tell you when your payment is being made and how. The IRS will also send you a letter about 15 days after payment with information about the amount you received and how you received it.
How do I know my status information is correct and what if I get an error?
Unfortunately, you may see confusing messages when you use the status tool – so much so that the IRS explains general status messages in a FAQ. You may receive a message if, for example, it is impossible to determine whether you are eligible or if your payment status is not available. We are investigating, but so far we have discovered a handful of reasons why Get My Payment may not be able to track your payment status .
The IRS updates status tracking information about who has and has not received payment once a day.
You do not have to register to receive stimulus money
To receive the stimulus payment, you may have to file a tax return for [2018] or 2019 if normally required. You can still do that now. Here's how .
Seniors, social security recipients, railroad retirees, and other beneficiaries who generally do not need to file a tax return do not have to do so to receive payment.
Again, the service will send a letter to the taxpayer's last known address within 15 days of sending the payment. The letter provides information on when and how the payment was made, and how to report to the IRS if you have not received your check.
