Using Facebook Messenger Rooms

Facebook has launched its latest video conferencing feature, Messenger Rooms, which allows up to 50 people to video chat simultaneously. You can talk indefinitely and you don't even need a Facebook account to join a chat room.

Note that calls in rooms, such as Zoom calls, are not end-to-end encrypted. In addition, when you make your call, unless you adjust your preferences, the room will be open to anyone you are friends with on Facebook; not only can they enter your room, they see it at the top of their news feed. And finally – the process can be a bit confusing.

We show you how to create a room and how to specify who can see and participate in your room.

  • At the top of your news feed, you will see a section called & # 39; Rooms & # 39 ;. You can make & # 39; Make & # 39; click in the top right corner of that bar or click the bubble with your profile picture and a plus sign to start your room.   • The first: "Room activity, & # 39; Can you indicate a purpose for the room, such as & # 39; Hanging Out", "Bored at Home" and "Coffee Chat" ;

  The Activity Room window gives you several options to indicate the purpose of your rooms, such as & # 39; Going Out & # 39 ;, & # 39; Keep Me Company & # 39;

You can set an activity for your room, which is a kind of description or status for that room.

  • Click on "Who is invited?" To customize who can enter the room. Two options: The first, "Friends", allows everyone in your Facebook friends list to automatically see your room at the top of their news feed and join if they want to. The second, "Invite Specific Friends", lets you select friends who can see and join your room. If you choose & # 39; Invite specific friends & # 39; and then & & # 39; Invite friends & # 39 ;, you will get a list of your Facebook v rienden; choose the one you want to invite. If you then press the & # 39; Skip & # 39; you will be asked if you want to allow the option of others entering the room via a link. Click "Turn On" to enable it. (You will get the actual link later.)

  In this window you can find your & # 39; friends & # 39; or & # 39; invite specific friends & # 39; invite into your room.

You can open your room so that all of your friends can see your room and join it, or just specific friends you select.

Creating a room with the Facebook mobile app:

  • Open the app and tap the start button ( in the bottom left corner of the screen on the iPhone, top left on an Android phone)
  • Click the "Make Space" button, between the story and the status bars at the top of your news feed
  • You will get the same three options as in the desktop app: & # 39; Space activity & # 39 ;, & # 39; Who is invited? & # 39; and "Start Time"
  • After setting your room preferences, click "Create Room" (on an iPhone) or "Next" (on an Android phone)
  • . You will get a screen with options to invite people, share, edit or end your room and copy the link. Click & # 39; Join Space & # 39; when you are ready to chat.

  At the bottom of your screen, a menu appears with three options: & # 39; Space Activity & # 39 ;, & # 39; Who's Invited? & # 39; and

When you create a room via the Facebook mobile app, you see a window similar to the one you get on your desktop.

  In the center of the screen you will see buttons labeled & # 39; Invite & # 39 ;, & # 39; Share & # 39 ;, & # 39; Edit & # 39; and & # 39; End Room & # 39 ;. Below that is the invite link and at the bottom of the screen is the button

You will get another screen similar to the desktop version, with which you can share, edit, end or join the room

  • You will then be taken to the Messenger app led. The room controls are the same, but with one difference: if you tap the X in the top right corner to leave the room and there is no one else in the room, the room will remain open and Facebook will notify you when someone sign up. Tap & # 39; Leave & # 39; in the pop-up window to continue. To end the conversation, go back to the Facebook app and click the & # 39; End Room & # 39; button. If you press the & # 39; End room & # 39; do not see, tap the square with your room (tap anywhere outside the & # 39; Join & # 39; button) and then click & # 39; End Room & # 39 ;.

  At the bottom of the screen & # 39; I see a 'Share link' button.

This takes you to the Messenger app, where you have to wait for someone else to join the conversation.

  You get a window asking if you would like to leave the conversation, but receive a notification when another participant joins. You can click & # 39; Cancel & # 39; or & # 39; Abandoned & # 39; to tap.

If you leave the conversation from this window, you will be notified when someone joins later.
