Answer: Morleys
Movie and television student departments often go out of their way to create the illusion that characters use everyday things without actually infringing on the trademarks or promoting that stuff. A perfect example of this is Morley cigarettes, the brand smoked by the gravel-voiced Smoking Man in the television series The X-Files .
A pack of Morley cigarettes is very similar to the early packaging of real Marlboro cigarettes and is a play about "Marley" – an early nickname for Marlboro cigarettes.
While the fictional cigarette brand Morley has appeared in dozens of movies and television shows, both before and after X-Files by far, the Smoking Man's use of the brand was most memorable. In addition to the many appearances of the Smoking Man with a Morley in his hand, there was even an episode of the show that included a murder of the headquarters of Morley Tobacco Mulder and Scully within the company itself.
