Sometimes while browsing on your iPhone or iPad home screen, you will see a blue dot next to certain app names. What does the point mean? We will explain.
Why are there blue dots next to some apps?
If you see a blue dot next to an app name on your iPhone or iPad home screen, it means the app has been updated recently.
In this way, the blue dot suggests that new features may have been added to the app since you last ran it. It encourages you to review the app. In fact, the same thing happens when you update apps on your Mac.
If blue dots appear next to your app names when you don’t expect them, it means that automatic app updates are enabled on your iPhone or iPad. To turn off automatic app updates, go to Settings> App Store and turn off the toggle next to App Updates. But in general, it is a good thing to enable this feature.
The blue dots also appear when you manually update an app through the App Store.
