Where to Buy Xbox Series S: Check out the watch again at Walmart, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and more

This story is part of Christmas gift guide 2020, CNET’s gift selection with expert advice, reviews and recommendations for the latest tech gifts for you and your family.

This isn’t how we wanted it to happen for the Xbox Series X debut, but this is 2020, so what did you really think would happen? Microsoft released the Xbox series S. back on November 10th and it sold out more or less immediately. It is immediately sold out when a retailer manages to replenish their inventory.

Of course, it̵

7;s not hard to see why: the Xbox Series S isn’t just a powerful update to Microsoft’s console franchise, it’s the smarter of the two new consoles to get. Priced at just $ 300, it’s the little brother of the $ 500 Xbox series X It all plays the same games, but it’s limited to 1440p resolution (versus 4K on the Series X), lacks an optical drive, and only has half the storage (500GB versus 1TB) – but that’s expandable with add-on drives, and Microsoft automatically loads less ambitious textures to better optimize memory space.

Our advice is that if you don’t have a 4K TV, this is the better console to buy because it’s affordable and doesn’t write many checks your TV can’t cash.

You may be wondering, when will there be enough inventory so most people can get the console they so desperately crave? Well, the news is not encouraging. Microsoft said on November 16 that Xbox stock could be tight until April 2021 and has not had much to say on the topic since then.

For their part, most retailers have not communicated very clearly (if at all) to customers about when they expect to have units for sale. Only a handful were more in advance. For example, Walmart has been keeping customers informed via Twitter of when it drops new inventory. Antonline does much the same, only reduces the lead time to be ready for sale. The retailer tweets the availability at the time of failure, directly in contact with customers and gamers.

At least one CNET editor was able to score the Xbox Series S on Amazon last month. The inventory has since gone, but if you’re looking to try your luck we’ve rounded up all the major retailers currently offering the console for sale. Please check back to this page regularly as we will update this article when we know there is imminent stock drop at any of these retailers.

Xbox Series S: Check the stock replenishment

Here is Walmart’s Xbox Series S order page. The retailer occasionally notifies customers of inventory loss via Twitter.

Best Buy was the last retailer to withdraw during its pre-order day in September, but it is just one of many stores now offering the Xbox Series S.

Amazon’s order page lists both versions of the next-gen console: the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

This is where you can buy an Xbox Series S from Newegg.

If you want to buy the new Xbox from GameStop, go here.

Target also has a page for the Xbox Series S.

Microsoft is offering the Xbox Series S for $ 300, or as part of the Xbox All Access plan, which includes the Series S and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, and costs $ 25 per month for 24 months.
