The Burn Bar is how Apple Fitness + adds a community dimension to its workouts. It compares your calorie burn to other people who have also exercised and tells you how you are doing. But sometimes you don’t see the Burn Bar. What gives?
What the Burn Bar shows
It takes two minutes for the Burn Bar to appear
Because the burn bar is based on how hard you worked over the past two minutes of your workout, it won’t appear until after you’ve actually worked out two minutes. If you don’t see the Burn Bar at the start of a workout, this is probably why.
The burn bar is only displayed for certain workouts
The Burn Bar is only displayed for workouts where the goal is to burn calories. Some workouts, such as Strength, Yoga and Mindful Cooldowns, have different goals. The Burn Bar does not appear in workouts like this one because it is not a good measure of performance.
For example, in strength training, your goal is to perform high-quality reps that build muscle, not get your heart rate up by bouncing around. The Burn Bar can’t compare your reps to others, so Fitness + doesn’t show it.
The Burn Bar can be turned off
After your first workout you will be given the option to switch off the Burn Bar. If you’ve done that by accident – or intentionally turned off the Burn Bar at some point – you may need to turn it on.
During a workout, tap the metric icon at the bottom right of the screen.
Tap the switch to the right of “Burn Bar” to turn it on.
If the Burn Bar option is already enabled on this screen, you probably won’t see it for one of the other reasons: you may have to wait two minutes or it may not be relevant to your current workout.
