Withings, maker of hybrid smartwatches, scales and blood pressure monitors, also makes sleep tracking gadgets. The latest mat, creatively christened the sleep analyzer, focuses on the general state of sleep apnea. Withings says the gadget can detect the irregular sleep pattern with enough precision for a medical diagnosis, citing pilot studies in European hospitals.
While the sleep analyzer does not have the full range of diagnostic tools that a sleep laboratory does, it does not require hospital visits and a team of technicians. According to Withings, the tool is reliable enough for most people to make a confident diagnosis, although actually following it up with a doctor will yield more useful results, such as prescribing the use of a CPAP mask.
The sleep analyzer also has all the bells and whistles of the older model, including more conventional sleep and breath tracking, plus integration with Wi-Fi smart home systems, so you can dim the lights as soon as you jump into bed. The Sleep Analyzer is available in Europe today for $ 1
