Xbox Series X Price: What Microsoft’s next-gen console is really going to cost you

Microsoft’s official suggested retail price for the new Xbox is $ 500 or $ 300, depending on the model. The Xbox series X (which comes with an optical drive and outputs with 4K resolution) costs $ 500, while the more modest Xbox Series S costs $ 300. The Series S has a slower processor, less internal storage, 1440p output instead of 4K, and no optical drive. Despite crippling inventory shortages, all major retailers continue to respect these prices and sell the consoles at Microsoft’s list price. That̵

7;s cold comfort, though, when you consider that due to its chronic out-of-stock status, the only real marketplace for the Xbox Series X / S is resellers where it regularly sells for no less than twice the price.

For months, when retailers have been given inventory and units for sale, they sell out in minutes, thanks in large part to the use of bots by resellers that complete transactions much faster than anyone else. Some retailers have started tackling these reseller bots, but they continue to prevent many people from getting consoles. These bot acquired consoles are resold at a premium. Exactly on eBay example, it is possible to find the Xbox Series X priced between $ 700 and $ 1,100. Some of the more expensive deals are actually bundles of accessories and games, but they’re still way overpriced and not good value, especially since you probably wouldn’t buy the included accessories if you had a free choice.

We’ve been offering the same advice for months: Wait until you can get an Xbox Series X for the retail price of $ 500 and avoid resellers and bundles.

In the meantime, Xbox restocks are happening on a regular basis, and gamers with fast reaction times have managed to snag a console. We’ll keep an eye on inventory declines and let you know when one is imminent – be sure to check out ours Article on the status of Xbox Series X stock for more details. Below is a list of all the major retailers (and a few reputable resellers, if you absolutely must) to help you get your own console.

Retailer and resellers of Xbox Series X

If in stock. Amazon sells the Xbox Series X for $ 500 and the Xbox Series S for $ 300 from the same product page.

Best Buy lists the Xbox Series X for $ 500 on this page.

At GameStop, the Xbox Series X is priced at $ 500.

This is Target’s product page for the Xbox Series X, where the console retails for $ 500.

Walmart is offering the Xbox Series X (if in stock) for $ 500. You may also want to visit the store’s Xbox landing page for both new consoles.

NewEgg sells both the Xbox Series X for $ 500 and the Xbox Series S for $ 300 on this page.

We highly recommend that you wait for stock to appear at regular retailers so that you can purchase an Xbox Series X at its regular retail price. If you can’t wait, you can find Xbox Series X consoles on eBay with bids starting at around $ 500, but actual retail prices are closer to $ 850 and up.

If you’re willing to shell out hundreds of dollars over list price, StockX is a reputable eBay-style site that lets you buy new Xbox consoles. That said, the lowest price we could find is around $ 650 and the average is closer to $ 800.
