This story is part of Christmas gift guide 2020, CNET’s gift choice with expert advice, reviews and recommendations for the latest tech gifts for you and your family.

Trying to buy an Xbox Series X? Then you are not alone. We’ve all waited a month for the Xbox inventory to come online, and frankly, Microsoft’s rollout of the new consoles on Nov. 10 is starting to be a bit of a tease. The next generation of game consoles from Microsoft: the Xbox series X and Xbox series S. ̵

1; sold out more or less immediately on launch day, then sold out in minutes every time there was some sort of inventory drop at major retailers. In part, this is clearly due to the insatiable consumer demand. But there is no doubt that it also has a lot to do with resellers beating the average consumer.

In recent weeks, Twitter has become a clearinghouse for rumors and speculation about upcoming restocking from online retailers, as well as trade stories about several Xbox whales escaping. And then there are reports of upcoming restocking that sound promising, but are probably just dragging on.

So what should a gamer do? Be sure to follow the news on Twitter. It’s a good source for instant updates and you might be in luck. But we’ll also keep you updated on what retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, Amazon, GameStop, and Target are planning here.

While Walmart, Antonline, and GameStop recently restocked their Xbox Series inventory and sold out in minutes, we haven’t seen much other news or activity. That’s more or less what we expected; Microsoft confirmed that on November 16 Xbox stock could be tight until April 2021.

However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be an occasional stock drop, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for topping up. What follows is a list of the most important retailers selling the Xbox Series X. Our advice is to look for the retail price of $ 500 and avoid those expensive shopping bundles (which include external controllers, accessories, and games).

Xbox Series X: Check the stock replenishment

Amazon sells the Xbox Series X and the cheaper Series S from the same product page.

Best Buy was the last retailer to return in the September pre-order days, but is now ready for your Xbox Series X purchase if stock permits.

GameStop had hailed “a very limited number of Xbox Series X and S console bundles for sale,” but they are currently out of print.

Walmart does a good job of listing availability windows for PS5 and Xbox on its Twitter feed. You may also want to visit the store’s Xbox landing page for both new consoles.

If you want the latest Xbox Series X news, there’s probably nowhere better than Microsoft’s own Xbox Series X homepage. Here you will find the latest specifications, announced game titles, details about the new controller and more.

This is Target’s product page for the Xbox Series X.

Here you can buy the Xbox Series X from Newegg if the retailer has stock.

Are you getting desperate yet? Are you willing to pay a premium of hundreds of dollars over the list price? Listen, we wouldn’t do this and we don’t recommend that you do it. But if you want to go that path, StockX is a reputable eBay-style site that lets you buy and sell new Xbox and PS5 models – as long as you’re willing to shell out over $ 750.
